UK Construction Awards Update

Posted by Adam Cadwaladr on Wednesday, November 25, 2015

The UK is currently among the most exciting construction regions on the world circuit as far as proposed projects go. Here I am outlining 2 frameworks and 3 notable construction projects that we haven’t covered yet. But chances are, no matter what major UK project you hear about, we will be recruiting Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers and Planners for it!

AMP6

As we move into the sixth Asset Management Period (AMP6), the water industry has been ramping up and all of the major contractors and consultancies are still interested in recruiting quality Quantity Surveyors with the right experience. Maxim Recruitment’s core areas of the Midlands, London, and the South East have seen a maintained demand for good calibre Quantity Surveyors and Estimators for Tier 1 companies on the framework. Types of work will vary between pipeline refurbishment / re-installation, new pipelines, new build treatment plants, and heavy civil engineering work in relation to these. I am currently recruiting Quantity Surveyors at all levels in Reading and London for this sector.

Education Funding Agency Framework

The education funding agency contractors framework was launched in 2013 (until 2017), at the time predicted to be £4 billion worth of investment in education construction works, focussing on the design and build of new larger schools and facilities. There has been substantial construction work in Croydon due to its ever increasing population, and we have been recruiting for projects around London and the rest of the UK in the education sector.

Heathrow

The programme of works at Heathrow is a whopping £2.5bn investment scheme over 5 years, with potential to be increased to £3.2bn. The works carried out are a mix of civil engineering, retail, fit-out, and Asset Management, with everyone’s eyes on the 3rd runway that will go into its pre construction stage in 2016, with an eye to begin construction in 2018. I am currently looking for career motivated Senior Quantity Surveyors to work on the project, some that will require aviation experience but some that will have experience in either retail, fit-out, or civil engineering in general.

Birmingham Paradise Circus

This £500m new development will see a huge boost to the Birmingham economy and its surrounding areas. London has usually been the base for major development of this size however it’s nice to see the UK’s second largest city competing with a £0.5bn pound development of its own. This should see an increase in the need for Quantity Surveyors, Planners, and Project Managers in the Midlands region, for which we are a major player in the recruitment of quality staff. I am currently seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor with PQS experience to join a consultancy in Birmingham on exciting projects.

London Battersea

This Major development is one of the most exciting projects in the UK, for which staff with Middle Eastern experience could be suitable for due to the sheer size of the project – however on the Quantity Surveying side at least, fairly recent UK experience is seen as important due to the costing processes differing to that of other locations. The construction management of phase 2 is split between 2 consultancies, 1 responsible for the Project Manager role and the other the Cost Manager role. The construction of phase 3 has recently been won by an international contractor earlier this month, which is worth around the £1bn mark. I am currently recruiting for a Senior Project Manager to join the project in the second phase.

Hinckley

The £24.5bn Hinkley Point C infrastructure project will be a mammoth project for contractors and consultancies to get their teeth into in the South West of England. 2 Contractors were awarded over a £450m electrical package, which was included in a 1.3bn worth of work won by other companies back in July. The JV for the electrical package will create 1,000 new jobs and will deliver critical infrastructure that will power the station. This is a 6 year deal and is expected to commence in 2016 (design work) , and construction work in 2017. We were recently recruiting Quantity Surveyors in the South West region to work for civils Main Contractors.

CONCLUSION

With a large variety of construction projects ongoing in the UK, if you have a suitable enough CV to work in any sector, Maxim will be able to help you find your job. I am seeking good Quantity Surveyors who have the drive and ambition to succeed in the UK market with the best companies!
