A Field Engineer / Site Supervisor construction job opportunity to monitor and report on site progress on a number of highway and civil engineering projects being constructed across British Columbia, Canada.

Some construction project locations will be in remote areas and overtime and weekend working will be required (with appropriate financial compensation paid).

Field Engineer / Site Supervisor construction job applicants will be expected to work in remote areas in the early stages of their employment.

Future career path opportunities that can be discussed will be to either advance within the role to lead and manage other Field Engineers / Field Monitors in the future, or to further develop technical skills and become a Scheduler, Project Manager or Estimator within other areas of the business based in downtown Vancouver.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Field Engineer / Site Supervisor to be present on site to monitor project progress and schedule, observing each element and stage of work performed by the contractor for standard of workmanship and materials used and reports observed or suspected discrepancies.
  • Ensure that construction procedures are carried out according to plans, specifications and standards and that reports, permits and delivery slips are valid.
  • Check measurements, productivity, locations and other relevant specific construction details.
  • Ensure that relevant tests are carried out by appropriate parties and verify results for acceptance.
  • Inspect the quality of construction and construction materials
  • Observe installation and testing for compliance with applicable safety regulations
  • Monitor and document daily activities, work conditions, productivity, downtime, rework and overall performance and compliance with the contract
  • Check and report upon any deviation from Occupational Health and Safety standards by the contractor.
  • Document and immediately notify direct supervisor(s) of any observed deficiencies related to noncompliance, lack of productivity or out of alliance performance.
  • Examine workmanship of finished installation and document Final Inspection results
  • Complete regular and special reports, forms, including daily work records and check lists for record and control purposes.
  • Participate on committees, work groups and reporting sessions as required.
  • Manage information in accordance with project specific and company record management, reporting and quality control processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Field Engineer / Site Supervisor candidates are expected to possess and be able to apply their knowledge of various civil and highway construction projects they have previously worked on, and have had some experience of BC Standard specifications for Highway Construction
  • Field Engineer / Site Supervisor candidates will be capable of reading and understanding construction plans, drawings, specifications technical procedures, contract documents and government regulations.
  • Be able to demonstrate their ability to recognize non-compliant conditions and initiate corrective measures.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Projects, and scheduling software such as Primavera or MS Project.
  • A familiarity with and working knowledge of HeavyBid is considered a strong asset
  • Able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work well under pressure.
  • Able to deal tactfully and effectively with clients, contractors, and co-workers.
  • Willingness to be paid to work overtime and weekends.
  • Willingness and capability to work in a remote area.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • A Post-secondary degree in the field of Civil Engineering or Construction Management (or equivalent) is strongly preferred
