We have been retained by a Desmet Ballestra Group, a world leader in the fields of engineering and supply of plants and equipment for the oils and fats industries, to recruit a roaming “Global Quality Manager” with a hands-on knowledge of fabricated vessel manufacturing and quality control to join their team under a planned succession. The position location (Asia, India) is flexible however Malaysia might be preferred for logistical convenience reasons.

Responsibilities and Duties

Reporting to the Global Operations Director who is based between US and Europe, you will travel extensively (Asia, India, Europe, Americas) to the multitude of workshops, suppliers and partners, managing quality control and functioning as an expert.

  •  Working with the global inspection and logistics teams, ensure that all proprietary vessels manufactured conform to DBG’s required level of quality:
    -Built in accordance with drawings and specifications.
    -Quality of proprietary vessels manufactured is verified as per Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
    -Completed vessels are surface protected for transport in accordance with approved procedures 
    -Completed vessels are prepared for transport in accordance with approved procedures 
  •  Hands on physical inspection of the vessels, machinery and plant is expected and required 
  •  Document quality of manufactured vessels via reports sent to respective project managers.
    -Routine inspection progress report.
    -Inspection release note of a fabricated vessel
  •  Develop, monitor and advise global inspection team members
    -Work with regional offices to help hire inspectors
    -Work with regional offices to help train and develop inspector skills
    -Audit local inspector work for compliance
    -Recommend rotations of inspectors across workshops
  •  Provide manufacturing feedback to vessel design engineers
    -Gather feedback from workshops concerning means to improve manufacturability, lower cost or improve quality or appearance.
    -Pass along potential ideas to vessel engineering managers to incorporate into standard vessel designs and future project vessel designs.
  •  Maintain existing & create new Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
  •  Assist Global Sourcing Manager
    -Join 1-2 meetings per year of Global Sourcing Steering Committee.
    -Assist global sourcing manager in defining current qualified workshops.
    -Assist global sourcing manager in maintaining workshop ID cards.
  •  Assist Global Logistics Manager. 
    -Help provide insight into the optimal means to prepare items for shipment and lifting.
  •  The position is to replace the current Global Quality Manager who will retire end of 2016.

Desired Skills and Experience

  •  10-20 years of steel / pressure welded vessel fabrication and workshop supervision 
  •  Solid QC Management experience 
  •  Excellent man-management skills, capable of leading and directing teams and resolving  technical and commercial issues and HR related disputes 
  •  Elicit and disseminate information from design drawings and specifications
  •  Willingness to travel extensively. Approximately 75% travel (2/3 to India, China, Malaysia),  (1/3 to Turkey, Spain, Belgium, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina)
  •  Fluent in verbal and written English is critical 
  •  Excellent organizational skills (largely self-managed)
  •  Confident, yet a good listener 
  •  Function as an expert and gain and maintain the respect of subcontract QC inspector teams across multicultural environments.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Relevant experience is sought over academic qualifications. Highly skilled technicians with experience of supervising vessel fabrication workshops are encouraged to apply!
