Construction careers don't get better than this exciting new opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineers. Our client, a highly respected niche UK based consultancy, is looking to second an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their HS2 partner based in Birmingham.

Project Details

Our client is helping to build the West Midlands section of HS2 s phase 1 route totalling 90km.
This involves:                                                    

  • 42 major viaducts 
  • More than 35 major cuttings
  • 56 culverts and other underbridges
  • 66 major embankments 
  • Four motorway crossings requiring box structures and six interfaces with the existing rail requiring both dive-under and overbridge structures.

You will be based as a core technical support team with the Contractor’s team at the site offices.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Fulfil the main contract requirements in relation to BREEAM and CL:AIRE as per Design Responsibility Matrix DRM
  • Support the construction phase with technical support,  responses to technical queries, acceptance of proposed materials, review of Inspection and Test Plans, and finding solutions in the event of non-conformances and defects.
  • Gather ground information and review in relation to the Geotechnical Baseline Report GBR
  • Ensure works are carried out in accordance with the Lead Designer Execution Plan and DRM 
  • Review Inspection & Test Plans ITP's and recommend on on witnessing requirements. Witness tests and inspections on behalf of contractor. 
  • Work with contractor to develop review  / witness approach on a risk based basis
  • Manage and develop solutions to non conformances NCRs and Field Change Requests FCRs 
  • Support the verification of the construction of the works in accordance with the design 
  • Geological inspections and review and advise on ground information
  • Participate in meetings and contribute to reporting 

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Principal or Senior Geotechnical Engineer
  • 15 years of post graduate and relevant experience in design, design management and engineering support.
  • Chartered Engineer MICE, MHKIE or suitable equivalent
  • Ideally from a design background as our client is a designer.
  • Practical problem solving, site based, working hand in hand with the Main Works Contractor to provide the engineering support during construction.
  • Technically excellent engineer with established skills and delivery capability
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • A flexible attitude to both the type of work undertaken and the level of responsibility given.
  • Ability to make decisions, act on your own initiative
  • A curious minded individual who enjoys the stimulation of exchanging ideas with others. 

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent in a Civil or Geotechnical Engineering allied subject.
  • Chartered Professional
