Construction careers and prospects are growing in Australia as an excellent opportunity has arisen for a high caliber, motivated client side Associate Quantity Surveyor to join a leading international cost management practice in Sydney to provide cost management support and advice on multiple projects in NSW. 

Project Details

As an active Management Team member, undertake multiple and complex work assignments, delivering within timeframes and managing resources to provide exemplary professional services to our clients, and generally supporting the Directors to ensure the effective and efficient operations of the company.

Responsibilities and Duties

Deliver Growth

  • Seeks out and attends or hosts regular relevant networking events with external contacts
  • Focuses on building a network of people who can identify business opportunities and support leads or opportunities
  • Focuses on building external reputation as an expert in your field
  • LinkedIn profile supports individual & corporate reputation
  • Develops and leads new client relationships and converts these to relevant fee proposals
  • Looks to position additional services and seeks opportunities to add value to new or existing clients to generate new business
  • Demonstrates commitment to business development meetings by sharing knowledge, new ideas, leads & encouraging or mentoring others
  • Is committed to utilising CRM as a key business development tool ensuring information is current & relevant
  • Develops and maintains existing Client relationships
  • Strong understanding of client's needs
  • Focuses on driving repeat business and ongoing billings with existing clients

Drive Operational Efficiencies

  • Oversees the planning, implementation and execution of projects
  • Sound management and quality controls are in place to ensure projects are delivered on time whilst maintaining quality standards
  • Ensures sound resourcing, progress, and standards are maintained
  • Demonstrates program planning and management processes in place by flagging risks, managing contingencies and setting key milestones and priorities
  • Monitors the day-to-day delivery of the programs and services of the organisation to maintain or improve quality
  • Strives to maintain high levels of productivity and to find operational efficiencies to support the increased profitability of billable time
  • Continuously improves work practices, project delivery, products, services, and systems
  • Initiates and encourages the development of client policies and practice
  • Maintains high percentage of billable time

  • Ensures that staff working on projects are appropriately trained & experienced
  • Relative to the information at hand, pre-tender estimates are generally within an acceptable tolerance level to the builder's estimate after pre tender
  • Evidence that measurements, assumptions and costings have been reported accurately and work has been checked prior to submission

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 8-10 years post-qualification experience in a PQS consultancy business 
  • Broad quantity surveying experience
  • Fully experienced in the provision of core QS services from feasibility / concept through to finalization of accounts and DLP admin.
  • Fully experienced in the use of all major forms of contract.
  • Experienced, in the provision of some specialist services (i.e. life cycle costing, sustainability, risk analysis etc). 
  • Possess excellent communication skill and strong interpersonal skill and able to interact effectively with external parties

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Construction or engineering degree qualified
  • RICS/ AIQS accredited
