A Commercial Manager is required to by a leading nationwide contractor who predominantly work in the Water / Utilities sector. The successful candidate will be expected to commercially manage circa £40m worth of work in the South region, with accountability for maximising profit and controlling costs.

Project Details

The successful candidate will manage £40m worth of work for a long standing framework agreement in the water sector in the South of the UK. Your office will be based in Kent, but you will be expected to split your time between managing your team of commercial staff on sites within the South region as well as being based in the clients office.

Responsibilities and Duties

The successful candidate will report into the Regional Commercial Manager and be responsible for managing a team of commercial staff delivering circa £40m worth of work per annum. Typical Responsibilities will include:

• External / internal valuations.
• Variations and final accounts.
• Cost Value Reports.
• Account forecasting and general costings.
• Negotiating and awarding of sub-contract orders in association with the Group Subcontract Manager.
• Measurement and payment of sub-contract orders.
• Resolution of contract disputes.
• Provision of feedback to the estimators.
• Assist in the Bid Management Process.
• Be pro-active in developing new systems to meet changing operational needs.

Desired Skills and Experience

- Previous experience of working for a reputable main contractor for a sustained period of time is essential.
- Candidates must having strong client facing skills. The ability to demonstrate management of a long standing, profitable relationship with clients would be highly advantageous.
- Will need to be able to demonstrate experience of maximising profit and managing costs on previous contracts.
- Previous experience in the Water sector would be advantageous, however any candidate with significant project experience in the civils sector would be considered.
- Ability to manage, mentor and keep a high level of morale amongst a small commercial team.
- High level of awareness and understanding of numerous contract forms.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

- Candidates will ideally hold a formal qualification in Quantity Surveying or similar subject, however for candidates who have particularly strong experience a qualification may not be essential.

Negotiable salary dependant on experience.
