Commercial Manager job with a focus on the commercial function of projects at the RFP (request for proposals) stage.  Reporting to the Commercial Director and liaising with the Bid Manager and JV Partners, the Commercial Manager will provide support in the preparation of proposals including input into schedule and estimate development, cashflow requirements, insurance, bonding and supply chain/procurement requirements.

Project Details

The Commercial Manager will be responsible for the commercial function of projects at the RFP (request for proposals) stage.
Reporting to the Commercial Director and liaising with the Bid Manager and JV Partners, the Commercial Manager will provide support in the preparation of proposals including input into schedule and estimate development, cashflow requirements, insurance, bonding and supply chain/procurement requirements. The Commercial Manager will also liaise with the legal department, whilst contributing to PA review, negotiation activities and risk analysis process.

Responsibilities and Duties

•Implement and manage any relevant commercial and project control matters during the RFP phase
•Liaise with the Bid Team and associated departments within the company and with JV Partners to gain a thorough understanding of the Scope of Works, PA, schedule (and critical path), estimate, supply chain/procurement requirements and risk profile/headlines for the Project
•Organise and chair Commercial Working Groups and actively participate/lead the risk analysis workshop
•Develop and enforce commercial/project control policies, processes and procedures during RFP
•Develop and advise on commercial strategy for successful project execution
•Provide commercial and contractual advice and reports to the Commercial Director and Project Managers
•Input into RFP phase including commercial and contract review, and risk analysis of projects
•Commercial management and monitoring of third party Consultants, Designers, Engineers etc.


•Minimum of 10 years’ commercial management experience on major infrastructure projects.
•Proven track record on delivering commercial success on major infrastructure schemes
•Currently operating at a management level on a major project or in a large construction company
•Sound understanding of contractual, both commercial and financial functions on major projects
•Able to effectively communicate with Executives, JV Partners and project staff on commercial matters
•Previous experience of fixed price Design and Build Major Projects (over $500m) in a senior level throughout the project cycle from bid to contract closeout
•Significant claims management/dispute resolution experience on major projects
•Thorough knowledge of change management principles
•Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills
•Excellent people and leadership skills.
•Ability to liaise/co-ordinate internal and external legal counsel and experts
•Experience of integrated Enterprise Resource Planning systems will be an advantage
•Experience of working in major Joint Ventures with International partners.
•Experience in Earned Value Management and Primavera P6 will be an asset.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

•Engineering Degree/Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent, with thorough Construction law knowledge
