Consultant - Quantum
An expanding construction consultancy is seeking a Consultant – Quantum to join its expert witness division.
Based in London (or remote with periodic London travel), you will support the delivery of quantum expert commissions by assisting with analysis, drafting sections of reports, and preparing supporting schedules for disputes referred to adjudication, arbitration and litigation.
This is an ideal role for a developing quantum professional looking to build strong disputes exposure and progress within a specialist forensic environment.
Project Details
The Consultant will support a Forensic Expert Witness team in delivering quantum expert witness and expert advisory services. You will assist with quantum analysis, document review, preparation of schedules and appendices, and the production of clear written content to support expert opinion.
Assignments typically relate to litigation, arbitration and adjudication, with additional opportunities to support settlement discussions and mediations in the UK and internationally. Project sectors may include building, civil engineering and wider infrastructure (specific projects not known).
Responsibilities and Duties
This role provides a strong platform to develop quantum and disputes skills under the guidance of experienced experts and lead assistants.
- Support senior staff with the preparation of quantum expert reports and related deliverables
- Analyse claim documentation, contractual provisions and cost records to assist with quantum assessments
- Help prepare and maintain schedules of quantum, cost build-ups and supporting appendices
- Assist with the valuation of common heads of claim including variations, loss and expense, disruption, prolongation costs, damages and termination-related claims
- Organise and reference evidence for formal proceedings (adjudication/arbitration/litigation), including document management support
- Contribute to internal quality reviews to ensure outputs are accurate, clear and consistent
- Attend meetings with clients and legal teams (with support) and produce concise notes and action points
- Support efficient delivery of commissions through good planning, prioritisation and administration
Desired Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will be analytical, organised and keen to develop within construction disputes.
- A minimum of 4 years quantity surveying experience
- Some experience in construction claims and/or quantum work (client-side, consultancy or contractor background) is ideal
- Ability to produce clear written analysis and contribute to report drafting
- Good working knowledge of construction cost management and commercial principles
- Comfortable reviewing and analysing large volumes of documentation and cost data
- Strong attention to detail and a structured approach to problem solving
- Confident communicator with a collaborative mindset
- Exposure to adjudication, arbitration or litigation environments is advantageous but not essential
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Degree qualified (or equivalent), ideally in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering or similar
- Working towards Chartered status (e.g. RICS or similar) is desirable
- Postgraduate study in construction law / dispute resolution (LLM / MSc) is advantageous but not essential
