The successful Junior Cost Consultant will work within a loan monitoring team supporting cost and progress reporting across a diverse portfolio of projects.
Projects include residential and commercial developments such as care homes, industrial schemes, high-value town-homes, and a major $300 million build-to-rent development. The role will involve supporting multiple projects at various stages of design and construction, providing valuable exposure to both lenders and developers.
Responsibilities and Duties
This quantity surveyor job in Canada will provide broad exposure to construction cost consulting and project monitoring duties, including:
- Assisting with periodic site inspections and preparation of cost and progress reports
- Supporting project cost account reconciliation activities
- Assisting senior cost consultants with change order review and analysis
- Supporting the preparation of lifecycle cost assessments under supervision
- Maintaining clear communication with internal team members and external stakeholders
- Assisting with data collection and analysis to support client reporting
- Supporting the preparation of benchmarking and cost analysis reports
- Managing project information and maintaining accurate cost records
Desired Skills and Experience
This role is suitable for an Assistant / Junior Quantity Surveyor looking to progress within cost consulting and loan monitoring in Canada:
- 1–3 years of experience in a quantity surveying or cost consulting role, preferably in Canada, ideally in Toronto although full training can be provided
- Previous client-facing experience with a developer, lender or bank is highly desirable
- Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills
- Good IT skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Willingness to learn loan monitoring and cost management processes
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet reporting deadlines
- Strong communication skills with a professional approach to stakeholders
- Driving licence is desirable due to site visit requirements
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- BSc in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Project Management or similar is desired
