The successful Cost Engineer will support the delivery of multibillion-dollar remote FIFO projects in rural New South Wales.

The employing consultancy operates across various sectors including infrastructure, resources and renewables including road, rail, water, marine, utilities, power, mining infrastructure, oil and gas, wind, solar, hydro, hydrogen, BESS and transmission.

Responsibilities and Duties

This Cost Engineer job in New South Wales will suit a commercially aware project controls professional who can operate effectively on large-scale construction and engineering works.

The role is expected to focus on cost management, forecasting and performance reporting on complex remote projects.

  • Prepare and maintain project budgets, cost reports and rolling forecasts for major FIFO projects
  • Monitor committed cost, actual cost and forecast final cost across large infrastructure or energy programmes
  • Support project controls and commercial teams with cost tracking, trend analysis and variance reporting
  • Assist with progress measurement, earned value style reporting and performance analysis where required
  • Review contractor, subcontractor and supplier cost data for accuracy and completeness
  • Help manage change, risk allowance and contingency drawdown in line with project controls procedures
  • Contribute to cash flow forecasting and cost-to-complete reporting for senior project stakeholders
  • Provide clear commercial insight to support decision-making on complex multibillion-dollar projects
  • Work collaboratively with planning, commercial, delivery and leadership teams in a remote FIFO environment
  • Support the continuous improvement of cost engineering, reporting and project controls processes

  • Previous experience as a Cost Engineer, Cost Control Engineer, Project Controls Engineer or similar

  • Good understanding of project controls, cost forecasting, budget management and commercial reporting
  • Experience of working in remote site environments or FIFO project settings would be advantageous
  • Ability to interpret project data and communicate cost risk, trends and performance clearly
  • Strong Excel and reporting systems capability, with confidence handling large data sets
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to work across planning, delivery and commercial functions
  • International project experience or exposure to global mega project delivery would be beneficial
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to operate in a high-accountability project environment

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Project Controls, Commerce or a related discipline is preferred
  • Relevant project controls or cost engineering credentials would be advantageous
  • Professional membership with a recognised industry body would be beneficial but is not essential
  • Candidates with equivalent practical major-project experience will also be considered
