A new Opportunity for a Director Cost Management to join a reputable cost consultancy in Toronto.

The role primarily consists of managing a team, business development in Toronto and technical work.

Only candidates who are legally eligible to work in Canada will be considered.

A relocation package is available for the suitable candidate outside Toronto, however, the ideal candidate will have some market knowledge of the Greater Toronto Area.

Project Details

The sectors of work will include residential, public (healthcare, education, government) commercial and institution.

The successful candidate will be managing a team about 8 people in Toronto, with possible oversight and support to Ottawa and London operations but this will depend on the level of experience. 

The role will involve management and business development in Toronto and technical work. You will have to be in the Toronto office at least 3 days a week and manage the team to do the same.

A competitive salary package is on offer commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Actively lead and support projects and teams located in Ontario
  • Provide advice on construction cost and strategic planning to prospective owners, architects, engineers and public authorities
  • Prepare and interpret tender documents, specifications, general conditions, and other parts and forms of contracts
  • Prepare and submit estimates for construction and development work
  • Assigns project clients to team members; reviews and signs-off on allocated reports
  • Actively takes part in the organization and lead team meetings by working with both primary and secondary departments
  • Coordinates and assists in recruiting, training, and coaching team members
  • Works alongside the department lead by implementing strategic plans in support of various operational requirements
  • Ensures all operating policies and procedures are understood and consistently applied
  • Networks regularly promoting the business, cross-selling and building new contacts and clients

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Minimum 5 years of management or leadership experience
  • Pre-contract work experience in cost consulting/estimating/ cost management
  • Market knowledge of GTA would be ideal
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation of all classes of estimates from conceptual to pre-tender estimates for various types of projects
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in the application of the practices and procedures involved in the cost management role
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and development client relationships

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • University Degree or equivalent to any of the following, Quantity Surveying, Estimating, Civil Engineering, or Construction Project Management
  • Professional qualification obtained such as PQS, MRICS
