An excellent Graduate Planner job in Glasgow is available with an established construction consultancy. The successful candidate will receive structured training in programme development, progress monitoring, NEC contract requirements, risk management and Primavera P6 while supporting experienced planning and project controls professionals.

Project Details

The Graduate Planner will support construction and infrastructure commissions in Glasgow and across Scotland.

Projects may involve complex, multi-phase construction and infrastructure programmes. The successful candidate will assist with baseline schedules, progress updates, tender programmes, programme reporting and project controls activities.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Graduate Planner will work alongside experienced Planners and Planning Managers while developing practical construction planning and programming skills.

Key duties will include:

  • Supporting the preparation of baseline schedules and project programmes
  • Learning to use Primavera P6, Microsoft Project and other planning software
  • Assisting with regular programme updates and progress reporting
  • Collecting progress information from site teams, Project Managers and commercial colleagues
  • Supporting the preparation of short-term and look-ahead programmes
  • Developing an understanding of critical path activities and programme logic
  • Assisting with the identification and recording of programme risks and opportunities
  • Maintaining accurate programme records, trackers and supporting documentation
  • Producing basic planning reports for review by senior colleagues
  • Supporting the preparation of tender and pre-construction programmes
  • Assisting with programme narratives and visual reporting
  • Learning the contractual timing and programme requirements of NEC contracts
  • Supporting the preparation and management of early warnings and programme submissions
  • Following established planning procedures, templates and governance standards
  • Working collaboratively with project, commercial and site teams
  • Participating positively in team meetings, training and professional development activities

Desired Skills and Experience

The successful Graduate Planner should be organised, analytical and motivated to develop a career in construction planning and project controls.

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • A basic understanding of construction planning, programming or project controls
  • Knowledge of construction sequencing and project delivery principles
  • An interest in learning Primavera P6 and other planning software
  • Basic awareness of critical path methodology and programme logic
  • Some knowledge of NEC contracts gained through university, training or work experience
  • Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and an appreciation of accurate record keeping
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively with project, commercial and site teams
  • Confidence using Microsoft Excel and other standard office software
  • A willingness to learn from experienced colleagues and take responsibility for personal development
  • Previous construction work experience or an industry placement would be advantageous

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Project Management, Quantity Surveying or another relevant discipline is required
  • Candidates approaching completion of a relevant degree may also be considered
  • Training or academic experience involving Primavera P6 is desirable
  • Knowledge or formal study of NEC contracts is advantageous
  • Membership of, or a commitment to work towards membership of, a relevant professional body is desirable
