Junior Cost Consultant - Project Monitoring
A new construction Cost Consultant job is available to work within the project monitoring team of a medium-sized cost consultancy in Toronto, Canada. Ideally, candidates will come from a PQS background with previous experience working on new building projects
Project Details
As a Quantity Surveyor/ construction Cost Consultant, you will be working within the office-based project monitoring team.
Your role is to ensure that a variety of estimating, cost consulting, and project monitoring services are delivered to clients efficiently and effectively.
Some of the projects include:
- House renovations
- Industrial units
- High-rise condominiums
- Laneway projects
The successful candidate will handle multiple concurrent projects, often at varying stages of completion.
Responsibilities and Duties
Some of the key responsibilities and duties of this Cost Consultant / Quantity Surveyor role will include:
- Undertake periodic site inspections, and complete cost and progress reports
- Project cost account reconciliation
- Report to the Associate Director on any projects assigned to individuals.
- Assist in the preparation of change order review analysis, and lifecycle cost estimates
- Maintain ongoing client communication and resolve issues as required. Escalate issues to the next level of management as required.
- Collaborate with various internal/external partners to obtain the necessary information to prepare proposals/reports
- Liaise with clients
- Produce benchmarking reports for construction and development costs
Desired Skills and Experience
- 1-2 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor/ Cost Consultant / Estimator. Ideally, from PQS Professional Quantity Surveyor background working in a cost consultancy, private practice, or a client. Graduates with a willingness to learn are also welcome.
- Possess decent I.T skills with a knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience of dealing with clients and building rapport.
- Knowledge of the Canadian market is advantageous but willingness to quickly learn is acceptable
- Previous experience of completing site inspections and cost, and progress reports
- Experience assisting with the preparation of change order review analysis, and lifecycle cost estimates.
- Previous experience working on new building projects
- Experience with handling multiple projects concurrently
- Experience of project cost account reconciliation
- Experience collaborating with internal and external partners
- Experience providing cost estimating services to clients
- Previous experience of preparing estimates at various stages of the design and construction process
- Previous experience with pricing of estimates
- Previously produced benchmarking reports for construction and development costs.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- A BSc in Project Management, Quantity Surveying, or other construction-related field or equivalent is expected.
- Working towards or willing to start a Professional Quantity Surveyor PQS OR CIQS / MRICS Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors accreditation
- Valid driving license required
