CICES and CIArb Cambridge Lecture Roundup

Posted by Adam Cadwaldr on Tuesday, November 21, 2017

In October I attended the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) / Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) Cambridge Lecture event with ~150 people to witness some insightful speakers on varying topics within construction. Maxim Recruitment was proud sponsor of the event, and I had the privilege of saying a few brief words to the attendees before the first lecture began.

Who Was Speaking

Kicked off by Tony Bingham of 3 Paper Buildings in London, it was a perfect start to the day with a generous scoop of humour added into the mix of expert knowledge on construction disputes shared. Following him was John Riches of Henry Cooper Consultants on records and evidence, Rupert Choat of Atkin Chambers on contracts, Stuart Thompson of Mills & Reeve LLP on NEC4, and Richard Williams of Pinsent Masons on construction law.

The day was an excellent opportunity for those looking to expand their knowledge of construction contracts, construction disputes, and construction law, and have the opportunity to network in between lectures. Like minded professionals from all over, not just from the Cambridge area, were in attendance for one of these reasons which made it a large and interesting turnout, and an event well worth attending.

Why We Were There

Maxim Recruitment is a leader in the recruitment of construction disputes sector staff in the UK and overseas. We recruit claims and expert witness sector staff of a Quantum or Delay nature in the UK and overseas for large and smaller organisations alike, that work on a large variety of construction disputes. We also recruit for certain construction law consultancies that are first and foremost solicitors, but with a QS or Engineering background. In attendance at the event were no doubt a large number of people that fit this description or who are interested at this time in specialising in construction disputes in one of the above mentioned forms.

My colleague Stuart Hackett and myself had some interesting conversations with people who value what we can add in regards to Quantity Surveying and Construction Disputes recruitment. It was the second event of this kind with the ICES that we have sponsored this year, the previous being ICES Commercial Management Conference in London. We look forward to collaborating on more events of this nature in the future.
