Construction Claims and Dispute Roles on the Rise

Posted by Adam Cadwaladr on Friday, June 5, 2015

The construction contract in its various forms can be complex and undergo severe scrutiny at times of dispute. More often, the higher the project value, means the higher monetary value of the claim put in by a company should one arise, whether it is due to damages, extensions of time, or various other unforeseen circumstances. At Maxim we recruit for a variety of companies in relation to these matters in the UK and overseas, many of which are larger international companies with a requirement for claims experienced staff, and some of which a smaller, very specialist companies in the Expert Witness sector, but all of which work in the major value claims, disputes and arbitration sectors across the construction industry.

Currently, I have an urgent requirement for candidates with a Quantum or Planning background, who want to work in the claims or expert witness sectors. There is a high demand in London for experienced professionals in construction to specialise in one of these sectors, with the opportunity to have exposure to major projects in the UK and overseas, based from London. Considering the potential losses to companies in the claims and disputes sector, it is understandable that my clients in this sector are paid very well for their expertise to potentially save a company tens and hundreds of million pounds on a construction project in some cases. This being the case, if employees perform well in the sector, they can be rewarded with generous bonuses on an ad hoc basis – something I have seen firsthand.

Staff specialising in the claims and dispute sector of construction can have a significant influence on a company’s financial performance. A good candidate in this sector could be saving any involved company from mass losses on a project in any one or few construction claims, and when a matter is heading into arbitration, Expert Witness companies get involved within court of law. Expert Witnesses in the industry come from various backgrounds, including planning, construction management, and quantity surveying. If this is an area that you are interested in, and feel you have the core skills of any of the above disciplines and want to specialise, and are willing to become chartered in the future or are already, please apply your CV to one of the relevant positions on the website and we will be in touch with you if we feel we can add value to your job search.
