Construction, Recruitment & Rugby in Hong Kong

Since being in Hong Kong I have combined my work as a recruitment consultant at Maxim with playing rugby for the Hong Kong Cricket Club. The Rugby community share strong links with the construction industry in Hong Kong. The top-tier rugby competition is the “The Paul-Y Premiership” and my team’s principal shirt sponsor is Leighton Asia. The names of other international contractors and consultancies can be found on the front of playing jerseys, sponsoring junior tournaments and in the national stadium around the field perimeter of the Hong Kong 7’s that has just finished for 2014.

There are also hundreds of construction professionals playing rugby in the 5 divisions of Hong Kong Rugby. In my team alone we have 2 blasting engineers, a project quantity surveyor and a senior claims consultant. We have a multi-cultural team made up of Brits, South Africans, Chinese, Australians and New Zealanders. The blend was obviously a success as we won the premiership title for the first time in 6 years (See picture).

Although all of the guys thoroughly enjoy the rugby and social side of Hong Kong, the main draw which brought them here was work. With the number of projects currently underway in Hong Kong and Macau quality construction professionals are at a premium. Whether your interests lie with civil infrastructure projects, rail systems or alternate dispute resolution, there are opportunities across the entire spectrum of the construction industry in Hong Kong.

If you are currently looking for new opportunities and are considering Hong Kong send me or any of my colleagues an email with your CV and we will be happy to assist.
