UK QS, Claims and Disputes Jobs Update

Posted by Adam Cadwaladr on Friday, December 8, 2017

The New Year is upon us! So for those interested in grasping new opportunities with it, I’m writing about some of our current Quantity Surveying, Claims and Construction Dispute opportunities in the UK.

Civil Engineering and Infrastructure Quantity Surveyors

Locations of opportunities

  • London
  • Birmingham
  • Manchester
  • Bristol
  • Cardiff
  • Oxford
  • Exeter
  • Southampton

We have opportunities in each of the above locations for Quantity Surveyors with civils and infrastructure sector experience, who want to further their career with international construction consultancies. The jobs in each location vary in seniority, from Assisting Quantity Surveyor to the Associate Director level.

We are particularly interested in seeing Quantity Surveyors with highways experience, although strong infrastructure experience in general is sought after, inclusive of rail. Main Contracting Quantity Surveyors would also be suitable to these roles.

Salaries

Top end salaries are circa £70,000 per annum for MRICS Quantity Surveyors (Associate Directors) with strong leadership skills. We are also seeking a rail Estimating Manager for Birmingham, with a salary range of £80,000-£100,000 per annum. Mid range Quantity Surveyors are ranging from £30k-£60k per annum.

Building Construction Quantity Surveyors

Locations of opportunities

  • London
  • Birmingham
  • Nottingham
  • Leicester
  • Cambridge

We are seeking Quantity Surveyors in the above locations to work for local and international construction consultancies alike. We are able to introduce Quantity Surveyors to smaller, niche cost consultancies and larger multi-national consultancies, dependant on preferences. Solid PQS experience is desirable for most opportunities in the built environment, unless you are clearly motivated and show transferable skills from a Main Contracting background, along with having registered to take your APC.

We are seeking all levels of Quantity Surveyor from Assistant to Associate/Partner level (the latter in London). The main level of seniority we have opportunities for is at the Senior Quantity Surveyor level in all locations mentioned above.

Salaries

Salaries vary depending on experience and location. We are seeing opportunities paying anywhere up to £50,000 all in outside of London for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor, with the London Market paying considerably more than this on some occasions for those with the right experience, sometimes up to £70,000 for candidates bordering on Associate level and specialist MEP Quantity Surveyors.

Construction Disputes Jobs

Locations for opportunities

  • London
  • Kent
  • and sometimes other areas of the UK

London remains the hot bed for Quantum Delay and other construction disputes jobs in the UK. We are currently have opportunities in Quantum and Delay for leading consultancies in the claims and expert witness sector in central London, as well as opportunities to join a construction solicitors practice in Kent for QS’s/Engineers with legal aspirations.

Seniority levels very in requirement. Recently we have arranged interviews for QS’s and Planners who are making their first step into construction disputes. We have also arranged interviews for Senior Directors of businesses who want a change. London is an attractive market place for UK and International disputes clients, as it boasts the top talent in the expert witness and claims fields.

Salaries

I have seen extremely wide ranging salaries for opportunities available. Please refer to my blog here to read my market overview concerning salaries in this field: Salary Report 2017Q3: UK Construction Dispute Roles

More recently, I have seen exceptions to my previous article with usual salary bands being defied in some rare cases! In short, I have seen Consultants from £45,000 per annum up to Directors on north of £140,000 in the last few months. Construction disputes is an area where reputation is key however, so chasing the money isn’t always the best option when choosing this career path and cutting your teeth. Choose the company that is right for you as opposed to the highest bidder – although money does talk in some cases.
