An excellent Associate Director Planning job opportunity in Birmingham for an experienced planning and project controls professional to lead complex infrastructure commissions. The role involves programme leadership, schedule management, project controls, team development, and client engagement across major transport, energy, water, and infrastructure projects.

Project Details

The successful Associate Director will support major UK infrastructure programmes across sectors including rail, highways, transport, energy and water. Projects will involve complex multidisciplinary teams and require robust programme planning, schedule management, project controls and integration of cost, risk and programme information.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Associate Director will provide senior planning leadership across major infrastructure projects and programmes.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Lead the planning function across complex multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
• Develop, maintain and manage robust project programme baselines.
• Manage and develop planning and project controls professionals.
• Undertake critical path analysis and scenario planning to identify and mitigate programme risks.
• Ensure project schedules comply with contractual requirements, including NEC contracts.
• Integrate programme, cost and risk information to support effective project decision-making.
• Deliver programme reporting, including Earned Value Management reporting.
• Lead planning workshops, programme reviews and client meetings.
• Review and assure contractor programmes and schedule submissions.
• Apply delay analysis techniques where required to understand programme performance and potential delay.
• Provide technical leadership and promote high standards of planning and project controls delivery.

Desired Skills and Experience

Suitable candidates will have significant planning and project controls experience gained on major infrastructure or construction programmes.

• Strong planning experience within rail, highways, transport, energy, water or similar infrastructure sectors.
• Experience leading planning teams on major projects or programmes.
• Advanced Primavera P6 capability and knowledge of MS Project.
• Strong understanding of critical path analysis and programme risk.
• Good knowledge of NEC contracts and their application to project planning.
• Experience integrating programme, cost and risk information.
• Understanding of Earned Value Management and project controls methodologies.
• Experience reviewing and assuring contractor programmes.
• Strong client and stakeholder management skills.
• Previous consultancy experience would be advantageous.
• Strong leadership, communication and team development capabilities.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

• Degree in Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management or another relevant discipline.
• Relevant professional membership or project management qualification would be advantageous.
