Senior Associate - Quantum
A Quantum Senior Associate role exists within the Quantum division of a prestigious, central London-based expert witness consultancy.
The successful candidate will have over 5 years of solid experience in a quantity surveying background.

Responsibilities and Duties
This role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to take their first step into the specialist field of quantum construction disputes. You will join a high-performing team and support the delivery of premium, long-term international arbitration work.
Your primary function will be to provide high-level analytical support to one of the businesses experts on multiple disputes concurrently.
The exact job duties of the Senior Associate will vary based on the size of each individual dispute you are working on. However, this is an entry-level role for a capable Quantity Surveyor to work on construction disputes – in particular premium long-term international arbitration work.
This role's primary function will be to provide high-level analytical support to one of the businesses experts on one or more disputes.
The successful candidate will be given more responsibilities as they progress within the role, such as taking independent responsibility for specific sections of the expert report, including carrying out all of the analysis and drafting of the report. You will also gain exposure to meeting with solicitors and personnel within the legal arena generally, hence increasing your network and reputation.
Some of the Senior Quantity Surveyor Quantum Associate job duties will include:
- Assisting with the early-stage research, analysis and drafting of detailed and accurate reports including the cost and claims situation on major disputes.
- Working in a supporting role to assist colleagues and the Quantum Expert Witness to provide highly analytical expert opinions for expert reports and joint statements for formal dispute resolution proceedings.
- Providing support to colleagues providing submissions to the International Court of Arbitration (ICC), including analysing implemented changed design and increased costs.
- Assist with the meticulous review of contemporaneous data to analyse the dispute variables
- Under guidance from your manager and other colleagues, assist the Quantum Expert Witness to conduct Quantum analysis in an ICC Arbitration representing the claimant regarding major international infrastructure projects.
- Liaise with a variety of parties both internally and externally to generate required information and documentation.
- Assisting colleagues with the preparations for testifying experts and legal counsel with presentations and cross-examination reports.
Desired Skills and Experience
Suitable Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor candidates will need to demonstrate strong QS experience and a commitment to move into the construction dispute and arbitration space. This would include:
- A minimum of 5 years of premium Quantity Surveying experience, ideally with a major reputable employer and with experience on large-scale, complex projects.
- Demonstrate a good contractual knowledge and an ability to know their way around the detail and principles of standard forms of construction contracts.
- A basic knowledge of and interest in dispute resolution procedures.
- A demonstrable ability to approach tasks methodically and analytically.
- Be incredibly meticulous and thorough in the work that you have done and be able to show examples of high standard written work completed
- Demonstrate a personable and professional manner.
- Able to show a genuine passion to specialise and progress your career in construction claims and disputes.
- Possess a high standard of written and spoken English
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- A Degree in Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management or a related construction degree or comparable qualification is expected.
- Chartered, or working towards Chartership (MRICS / MInstCES / equivalent) is highly desirable
