Senior Civils Estimator

An excellent opportunity for a Senior Civils Estimator to lead complex  infrastructure estimating programmes for a respected construction contractor. This Barbados based estimating job requires first class estimate development, strategic input on bids and proposals, and collaboration across transport, energy, and wider infrastructure sectors. The role will be ideally suited to those candidates with previous site engineering and site management experience prior to embarking on their career in estimation.

Project Details

The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for large-scale civil engineering projects, ensuring all aspects of the project are thoroughly evaluated from initial concept through to tender submission.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Lead and coordinate the preparation of detailed civil estimation for varied heavy civil projects, including roads, bridges, drainage, and infrastructure works.
• Review project drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to identify scope, resources, and potential risks.
• Conduct quantity take-offs, cost analysis, and market research to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.
• Collaborate with design teams, project managers, and subcontractors to develop comprehensive cost strategies.
• Prepare and submit tender documents, including cost schedules and supporting documentation.
• Analyze and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior estimators.
• Keep abreast of market trends, inflation rates, and new construction methodologies relevant to heavy civil works.
• Assist in post-tender negotiations and bid clarifications.
• Ensure all estimates comply with company standards, safety regulations, and client specifications.

Desired Skills and Experience

• 10 years site experience on heavy civil engineering projects.
• At least 5 years of proven experience in civil estimating, ideally within a main contracting environment.
• Strong knowledge of civil construction practices, pricing, and contractual procedures.
• Proficiency with estimating software and MS Office Suite.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Prior experience working on projects in the Caribbean or similar international markets is a plus.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar
