The position is located in the Glasgow office of a specialist construction dispute consultancy, and it offers the chance to work with a Quantum Claims team that work for main contractors.

Working within a large construction claims division, the handling of construction claims will be the primary focus of your job. You will be a member of the claims team that handles construction claims for construction contractors in Canada.

You will receive expert advice, training, and professional growth by reporting to a variety of nationally recognised Claims and Disputes Experts

Project Details

The scope of work to be undertaken consists of a variety of civil and building construction projects in Glasgow, Scotland as well as a variety of expert service assignments with locations in both the UK and Canada.

Quantum claims resolution work will mostly relate to entertainment centres, hospitals, and data centres in building construction projects. In contrast, claims activity in infrastructure construction is mostly expected to be on roads, bridges, and other civil engineering projects.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • The successful Senior Quantum Claims Consultant candidate will be required to lead a construction claims team working on a specific client claims project or to join an expert construction claims team.
  • Candidates would be expected to have developed significant technical knowledge and experience from working in a related capacity, such as working as a quantity surveyor or commercial manager and be able to convey research findings to co-workers, attorneys, and senior client representatives with gravitas both orally and in writing.
  • You will have had the experience of working on several challenging projects during your career so far and will have developed the necessary ability to understand and comprehend and be able to take the necessary action on live project disputes.
  • The candidate must be able to offer high-quality claims consultancy advice on active contracts and distressed projects to a high professional standard supported in a structured manner by clear cross-referencing to the relevant documents analysed.
  • The capacity to interact with clients and attorneys with confidence
  • Capacity to accept constructive criticism and respond well to it. In this regard, the applicant should be motivated and passionate about enhancing their talents and producing a high standard of work.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Candidate should have 4 – 10 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Cost Manager and Commercial Manager and some hands-on claims experience
  • Strong and transferrable experience of working as a contractor's Project Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor is preferred, with reference to having worked on claims matters arising because of having managed a significantly sized contract like JCT and NEC from commencement to final account, and with responsibility for managing the claims preparation process throughout the duration and completion of contracted works
  • The candidate should have experience in working with a claims construction team or managing a construction claims team on a client claims assignment
  • Experience of presenting the construction claims strategy to be adopted as well as demonstrating command of the detail of the claim, both orally and in written form to colleagues, lawyers, and senior client representatives with natural gravitas
  • Able to offer advice on a range of national and international construction contract forms to clients and the process and procedures relating to them, that are available to pursue or rebut a claim
  • Experience and ability to work alone to provide claims consultancy advice on live contracts and projects in destress to highest professional standard without supervision and to collaborate to complete complex tasks under tight time deadlines
  • Able to deploy a broad range of prior experience from a variety construction sectors to the construction claim issues under consideration

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or Cost Management is preferred
  • MSc or LLM in Construction law is desirable
