Senior Quantity Surveyor opportunity with an established JV to work High Speed 2 (HS2) infrastructure project.

This is a hybrid role with 3 days in the Reading office and 2 days working from home.

Senior Quantity Surveyor candidates with previous experience in the rail sector would be ideal.

Project Details

Senior Quantity Surveyor in this role must be able to work independently and have experience in managing a small commercial team. The project is the new high-speed rail link HS2 due for completion in around 2027.

The employer’s office is located in Twyford, Reading. This is a hybrid role with 3 days in the office and 2 at home.

A driving license for this role is required as the Senior Quantity Surveyor must be able to drive to the site.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Leading a small group of commercial staff
  • Carrying out both periodical duties and one-off tasks in accordance with deadlines as directed by the senior Commercial team.
  • Prepare and agree on variation accounts – main contract and sub-contracts.
  • Monitor cost against targets and contract progress against accepted programmes and work plans in conjunction with other team disciplines.
  • Provide input into change control procedures for EOT, delays and performance adjustment.
  • Prepare and agree interim valuations, final valuations, final accounts and sub-contract final accounts.
  • Prepare and issue certification and payment of sub-contractors.
  • Provide contractual advice to management (ensure compliance with contract and legal administration obligations)
  • Negotiate and progress the resolution of any disputes.
  • Identify potential commercial risks and evaluate options for their control and management.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience at the Quantity Surveyor level, displaying skill in delivering a positive commercial outcome for the project(s) with which you have been associated
  • Previous experience in rail or infrastructure projects
  • The ability to listen, learn and take on board new concepts and carry out actions, whilst mentoring junior team members
  • Proactive team player
  • Problem solving approach.
  • IT skills, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills 

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying or similar
  • Enrolled in, or seeking membership of, a relevant professional institution (CICES, RICS or similar).
