The successful Risk Manager / Senior Risk Manager will support the delivery of major infrastructure projects and programmes across the UK based from Manchester, with particular relevance to candidates seeking risk management jobs in Manchester, Greater Manchester and North West England.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Risk Manager / Senior Risk Manager will provide high-quality construction risk management services across complex infrastructure projects and programmes. Key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver risk management services in a consistent, professional and commercially focused manner
  • Implement effective risk management activities to reduce risk exposure, uncertainty and potential project disruption
  • Support the development and implementation of risk management strategies, systems, processes and procedures for major infrastructure clients
  • Facilitate risk workshops with project teams, programme teams, clients and stakeholders
  • Lead and support risk identification, risk assessment, qualitative risk analysis and quantitative risk analysis activities
  • Undertake risk reviews and help project teams apply appropriate scoring, mitigation planning and reporting methods
  • Use recognised risk management software and project controls tools to analyse and report risk data
  • Produce clear, accurate and useful risk reports tailored to project, programme and client requirements
  • Support the integration of risk management with project controls, cost management, planning, scheduling, estimating and contract administration
  • Advise project teams on best practice risk management in line with recognised industry standards and methodologies
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of risk management processes, tools, templates and reporting methods
  • Support bid preparation, proposals and work-winning activity for new risk management and project controls commissions
  • Assist with business development, client engagement and profile-raising activity across the wider construction consultancy and infrastructure risk management market

  • Understanding of value management and how it is applied to infrastructure and construction projects
  • Understanding of how risk management integrates with project controls, cost estimating, planning, scheduling and contract administration
  • Experience in transportation, rail, highways, energy, aviation, utilities or infrastructure projects would be highly desirable
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with clients, project teams and senior stakeholders
  • Analytical thinking, initiative and the ability to suggest practical improvements
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across wider project teams
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and deliver accurate work to agreed timescales

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

The successful Risk Manager / Senior Risk Manager should ideally have:

  • A degree, diploma or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject such as construction management, engineering, project management, quantity surveying, risk management or a related discipline
  • A recognised risk management qualification or relevant professional training would be highly desirable
  • Membership, progress towards membership or awareness of relevant professional bodies such as the Institute of Risk Management, Association for Project Management, RICS, ICE or similar would be advantageous
  • Candidates qualified by experience with strong infrastructure risk management experience will also be considered
