An exciting opportunity for a construction experienced Senior Scheduler to join a major civil engineering contractor delivering the upgrade of a high-profile nuclear infrastructure project in Ontario.

This job role offers involvement in major complex tunnelling and construction works, taking responsibility for planning, scheduling and project controls across pre-construction and execution phases of the construction works.

Project Details

The Senior Scheduler will be involved in the design & build refurbishment of aspects of a major nuclear generating station in Pickering, Ontario.

The project includes the design and construction of a deep-water intake system in Lake Ontario and related additional works.

Key elements of the project include:

  • A 1.5 km-long tunnel constructed using a pressurised slurry TBM (10.15m diameter)
  • Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore)
  • An offshore modular intake structure located on the lakebed

The project is being delivered in close proximity to an active nuclear facility, requiring exceptional standards of safety, coordination and planning.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Senior Scheduler will take a lead role in planning and schedule management across the full project lifecycle, reporting to the Project Control Lead.  Full details of this Planner/Scheduler job duties include:

  • Develop, structure and maintain the overall project schedule
  • Prepare and update pre-construction and construction phase schedules
  • Establish and manage baseline schedules for execution
  • Produce weekly and monthly progress reports and look-ahead programmes
  • Develop 3-week and 3-month look-ahead schedules
  • Coordinate scheduling activities across design, procurement, permitting and construction teams
  • Identify scheduling conflicts and interface issues between project phases
  • Analyse risks and assess their impact on the project schedule
  • Develop mitigation strategies and alternative sequencing scenarios
  • Conduct “what-if” analysis to support project decision-making
  • Monitor schedule performance and report on KPIs and variances
  • Ensure schedule compliance with contractual and quality requirements
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all schedule-related matters
  • Work closely with cost control, estimating and commercial teams to align forecasts

Desired Skills and Experience

This Senior Scheduler position is suited to experienced planning professionals with a strong background in major infrastructure or civil engineering projects.

  • 8–10 years’ experience in construction planning and scheduling or equivalent is expected
  • Extensive experience using Primavera P6 for project scheduling
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing and phasing
  • Experience on large-scale civil engineering or infrastructure projects (tunnelling experience advantageous)
  • Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Familiarity with schedule analysis tools and Microsoft Project
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment
  • Strong communication skills for reporting and stakeholder coordination

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or similar
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is desirable
