A major river-crossing project in Vancouver is now underway, valued at over $4BN and expected to run for more than 5 years.
This outstanding job opportunity encompasses technical, engineering, environmental, and collaborative challenges and offers a fantastic opportunity for a Construction Manager, Engineering Manager, Program Delivery Manager, or Project Manager experienced candidate to advance their career by working on a premium major infrastructure construction project.
This river-crossing and transportation project will be constructed under a progressive design-and-build contract and presents numerous structural challenges that will require technical solutions to ensure constructability and compliance with environmental requirements.
Responsibilities and Duties
As Senior Technical Manager, you will report to the project Technical Director and will have the following job responsibilities:
- To drive the project design development and ensure that what is approved can be constructed efficiently
- To ensure the design meets cost limitations
- To ensure the design complies with the extensive environmental requirements
- Take full responsibility for a segment of works comprising structure, civils, highway, geotechnical and environmental elements throughout the duration of the project
- To manage internal and external stakeholder relationships
- Foster trust and good communications and governance across interdisciplinary teams
Desired Skills and Experience
Suitable Senior Technical Manager candidates will have previously worked in a related job role that may have encompassed aspects of job titles such as Engineering Manager, Owners Engineer, Construction Manager, Technical Advisory Manager, Construction Services Lead, Program Delivery Manager, Risk Manager or Change Manager.
Previous job experience for this Senior Technical Manager role will include:
- Design coordination experience – ideally for a general contractor
- Demonstrable problem-solving experience
- Proven ability to liaise across teams and foster good project communications and collaborative working
- Experience in including environmental considerations in project designs and delivery
Suitable prior project experience for this Senior Technical Manager role will have been gained from working on major infrastructure projects, such as marine, port, highway, bridge, tunnel, or airport projects, or in the oil & gas sector, ideally in Canada or on major projects around the world.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
This Senior Technical Manager job is likely to require P.Eng Chartered Engineer status in Canada.
It may be possible to consider Chartered Engineer candidates who gained their qualifications from the UK or elsewhere in the world and have a clear route to becoming P.Eng in Canada.
