The Structural Analyst role in London is to support the specialist Civil Engineers, Chartered Engineers and Engineering Expert Witnesses to research, understand and write reports relating to client problems such as structural failures, inadequate durability of steel and concrete structures, problems with basement structures, matters relating to period buildings, concerns or failure of heavily loaded industrial floors and pavements, and drainage and flooding problems relating to both buildings and civil engineering structures.

Responsibilities and Duties

The job of Structural Analyst is a critical job role for the London based company and is an excellent civil engineering career opportunity.

Using your engineering qualifications and chartership study with your design consultancy experience in the real world. you will engage in Structural Analyst work to assist the resident experts research and identify the key issues relating to the client assignment.

Structural Analysis will need to be undertaken on a range of projects including heavy civil engineering works, hydraulic structures, offshore platforms, below ground construction, structural steelwork, waterproofing systems, concrete durability and epoxy resin applications in construction to establish the probable causes of failure, delay, damage and describe the key factors requiring remediation and identify the party at fault required to undertake such remediation.

You will be required to liase with the client's consulting engineers, contractors and with the building or project owners on the engineering issues at issue.

You will be involved with a wide range of disputes, usualy concurrently, and will undertake Structural Analysis of professional design work completed relating to design, materials and workmanship problems.

Desired Skills and Experience

The Structural Analyst job role requires previous Structural Analyst experience, ideally on a wide range of structural and civil engineering projects in the United Kingdom and overseas.

Likely to be an early to mid career role for the right candidate, some exposure to relevant design work on civil-engineering structures, post-tensioned concrete bridges, buildings, vibrations in buildings, subsidence, floor screeds, building envelopes and familiarity with contract administration is all desirable.

Some experience of liaising with solicitors and barristers and preparing CPR-compliant reports and joint statements wold be ideal, although training and experience of this can be given to the most capable applicants.

All levels of experience will be considered on merit, although it is envisaged that at least 5 years' experience will be needed to meet the minimum experience levels required to do the job.

Some exposure do dispute and forensic engineering analysis work is highly desirable, and is preferred, however candidates with a strong civil or structural background that can demonstrate a high level of analytical and literacy skills will also happily be considered.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • A high quality civil engineering or structural engineering degree is essential, prererably from a leading recognised university
  • Chartership within civil engineering or structural engineering is also essential
