A new, exciting Assistant Project Manager - Built Heritage vacancy to work for a successful and innovative archaeology and built heritage practice.

You will be assisting senior team members with the high-quality archaeology and built heritage services for some of the UK’s largest and most exciting infrastructure and development projects.

Project Details

An Assistant Project Manager is needed to support Project Managers and Senior Project Managers in the design and delivery of built heritage projects and to manage smaller / less complex projects within agreed business development targets and compliance with all local, regional, national and professional standards.

The successful Assistant Project Manager candidate will have varied responsibilities on a daily basis including, costing, organising, managing and delivering built heritage projects (including research and preparing reports), forming project teams in liaison with other teams and managers.

The post is based at the London office but travel to sites in the southeast and nationally will be necessary.

Responsibilities and Duties

The duties and responsibilities of an Assistant Project Manager will include, but not be limited to:

  • To plan, manage and complete heritage projects and take action to ensure that chargeability and profitability targets are achieved and that appropriate academic, technical and quality standards are met
  • To work with other members of the Developer Services Project Management Team, provide cover and support as required, and contribute to the sharing of best practice and lessons learned at project completion
  • Ensure projects are adequately resourced and scheduled
  • To invoice clients on relevant projects.
  • Manage and coordinate concurrent project programmes, ensuring timely completion, standards compliance and client satisfaction
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with clients, consultants and regulators
  • To prepare project documentation to the agreed standard

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrable historic buildings experience. Private sector experience is preferable but public sector experience will also be considered.
  • Proven experience in the management of change in the historic built environment.
  • Experience of writing heritage reports and documents such as Conservation Management Plans, Heritage Statements, Historic Buildings Appraisals and Impact Assessments.
  • Ability to provide design advice on small to medium size projects and complex schemes.
  • Sound knowledge of architectural history in the UK and ability to undertake research to academic level on primary and secondary documentary sources
  • Knowledge of current conservation practices, national and local heritage conservation legislation and knowledge of the Historic England and other relevant guidance
  • Intermediate skills in Excel and Word

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • A relevant Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Project Management or other Construction related field
  • Accredited Project Management qualification or relevant post-graduate qualification desirable
