The successful candidate will join an established construction disputes team and work on complex, high-value UK and international assignments.

This role would suit an experienced Senior Delay Consultant or existing Associate Director with strong forensic delay analysis experience who is looking to progress their career within a specialist disputes environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with experienced Delay Experts and senior members of the disputes team, undertaking forensic programme analysis and assisting with the preparation of reports for adjudication, arbitration, litigation and other dispute resolution proceedings.

Responsibilities and Duties

The successful Associate Director Delay candidate will be required to:

• Undertake detailed forensic delay analysis on complex construction and engineering projects.
• Analyse construction programmes, project records, progress information and contemporaneous documentation.
• Identify critical and near-critical paths and assess the effects of delay events on project completion.
• Assess extension of time, delay, disruption and prolongation matters.
• Apply appropriate recognised forensic delay analysis methodologies.
• Prepare clear and robust delay analysis reports.
• Assist senior Delay Experts with the preparation of Expert Witness reports.
• Support disputes being dealt with through adjudication, arbitration, litigation and mediation.
• Manage individual workstreams and substantial elements of larger dispute assignments.
• Review and supervise the work of junior delay consultants and analysts.
• Liaise with clients, solicitors, contractors, consultants and other relevant parties.
• Assist with proposals, client presentations and business development activities.
• Contribute to the continued growth of the construction disputes team.

Desired Skills and Experience

The successful Associate Director Delay candidate will ideally have:

• Significant experience in construction planning, delay analysis and/or construction claims and disputes.
• Strong practical experience undertaking forensic delay analysis.
• Previous experience working for a construction claims or disputes consultancy would be highly advantageous.
• A strong understanding of critical path analysis and recognised delay analysis methodologies.
• Experience assessing extension of time, delay and disruption claims.
• Experience working on matters involving adjudication, arbitration and/or litigation.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to review large quantities of project information.
• Excellent technical report-writing skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good client-facing skills.
• Experience managing or mentoring junior members of staff.
• A commercial outlook and an interest in developing client relationships.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

• A degree in a construction or engineering-related discipline such as Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or Project Management is preferred.
• A relevant postgraduate qualification in Construction Law, Dispute Resolution or a related subject would be advantageous.
• Membership of, or progress towards membership of, a relevant professional institution such as CIOB, RICS, APM or CIArb would be desirable.
