This Associate Director – Quantum job in Sydney will involve working on complex construction and infrastructure disputes, insurance-related construction claims, and project advisory matters.
The successful candidate will support leading Quantum Experts on large-scale construction disputes and formal claims matters, including litigation, arbitration, expert witness evidence, and other dispute resolution proceedings.
Projects are likely to include major building, infrastructure, engineering, energy, transport, and commercial construction projects across Australia and internationally. The work will include quantum analysis, cost overrun assessment, damages quantification, prolongation, disruption, extensions of time, and claims rebuttal work.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Associate Director – Quantum will work closely with leading Quantum Experts and senior dispute resolution professionals.
This is a senior role requiring strong technical ability, excellent written communication, commercial judgement, and the ability to manage complex claims and quantum expert commissions.
Specific duties and responsibilities will include:
- Working closely with Quantum Experts as a trusted advisor on construction dispute resolution, litigation support, arbitration, and expert witness evidence
- Acting as Lead Assistant on major quantum expert commissions, overseeing technical reports, expert reports, client strategy recommendations, and supporting analysis
- Independently drafting expert reports, claims responses, rebuttal reports, and other quantum-related deliverables
- Leading the quantification of cost overruns, loss and expense, damages, prolongation, disruption, and other construction claims
- Preparing and reviewing measurement take-offs, cost analysis, estimate preparation, quantum assessments, and commercial evaluations
- Building a detailed understanding of the technical, contractual, commercial, and legal issues relevant to construction disputes on large-scale projects
- Drafting, managing, and leading the preparation of claims relating to extensions of time, prolongation, disruption, variation accounts, and contentious commercial matters
- Supporting dispute resolution strategies for construction, engineering, infrastructure, and insurance clients
- Reviewing and responding to opposing party claims and expert reports with clear, concise, and persuasive written analysis
- Identifying and helping to secure new client appointments and business development opportunities
- Mentoring junior consultants and reviewing their technical work to support their development
- Contributing positively to the continued growth, reputation, and success of the Sydney quantum disputes team
Desired Skills and Experience
Suitable candidates for this Associate Director – Quantum job will have significant experience in quantum claims, construction disputes, quantity surveying, commercial management, or specialist dispute consultancy work.
Candidates should be confident in producing high-quality written work and able to support recognised Quantum Experts on complex construction dispute assignments.
Desired skills and experience include:
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the construction, engineering, infrastructure, or specialist disputes sectors
- Previous experience working for a construction contractor, engineering contractor, quantity surveying practice, claims consultancy, or construction disputes consultancy
- Experience writing or contributing to quantum expert reports
- Knowledge of formal dispute resolution processes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and persuasive reports
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, lead workstreams, and coordinate junior staff input
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to develop practical and robust client strategy recommendations
- Experience in business development, client relationship management, or securing new appointments would be advantageous
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related construction discipline
- MRICS, MCIArb, RICS, AIQS, or equivalent professional membership is desirable
- Further qualifications in construction law, dispute resolution, arbitration, commercial management, or claims management would be advantageous
