Clerk of Works
A Clerk of Works position is available with a specialist consultancy delivering residential projects for councils, housing associations, and private clients. Operating across a number of London boroughs, North, East, South, and West, this role covers wider South of England projects typically £15-30 million in value and at times up to £65 million.
The successful Clerk of Works will have around 5–8 years’ experience in a Clerk of Works job working on housing and refurbishment projects. ICWCI qualification is highly desirable, and previous site trades or inspection experience will be valuable.
Project Details
As Clerk of Works your projects will include:
- New build housing developments
- Residential refurbishments
- Fire safety-related improvement work
- Cladding remediation schemes
- Some commercial projects for local authorities and housing providers
Typical projects range from 20 to 100 units in scale and £15–30 million in value, primarily in residential builds. You will play an integral role in quality assurance on-site.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Inspect residential new build, refurbishment, and cladding remediation projects on-site
- Ensure standards meet contract design, specification, and statutory regulations
- Produce clear, high-quality inspection reports
- Identify and record defects, snagging, and discrepancies
- Support quality management processes on site
- Maintain accurate filing and reporting systems
Desired Skills and Experience
- 5–8 years’ Clerk of Works or relevant site inspection experience
- Strong knowledge of residential construction and refurbishment projects
- Confident in identifying and reporting defects
- Experience with software such as Site Audit Pro and Field View
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- ICWCI qualification (MICWCI, Assoc ICWCI, or LICWCI) desirable
- Other relevant qualifications (CIOB, CABE, RICS) considered
