Clerk of Works
An exciting opportunity is available to work as a Clerk of Works in the Midlands, with new build and refurbishment projects stretching across Northampton, Leicester, Nottingham, Newark, South Yorkshire, and elsewhere. Dependent on experience, salary up to £52k + fuel.
An experienced Clerk of Works is required to monitor and inspect construction projects, typically valued at around £30 million. Projects include a broad portfolio of education, residential, HRB, commercial, mixed-use town and city centre developments, bespoke builds, and industrial schemes.
This role will suit a professional Clerk of Works who has strong experience working with contractors, ensuring quality, compliance, and upholding client interests.
Project Details
- New build and refurbishment schemes across the Midlands, Kettering, North Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, and wider Leicestershire/Nottinghamshire areas.
- Typical project value: up to £30m.
- Sectors: schools, universities, HRB apartments, residential (private & social housing), mixed-use, industrial, and commercial developments.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Carry out site inspections and monitor to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, and regulations.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of inspections and progress.
- Prepare and issue detailed reports on quality and compliance issues.
- Identify, report, and follow up on defects and non-compliance, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Attend site meetings and liaise effectively with contractors, design teams, and client representatives.
- Provide professional advice to safeguard quality standards, cost efficiency, and timely delivery.
- Uphold a firm and professional stance on issues, not being a pushover, while maintaining constructive working relationships.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Proven Clerk of Works experience across multiple project types.
- Strong knowledge of different construction methods and building types.
- Experience with NEC forms of contract.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills.
- Ability to remain impartial while safeguarding the client’s interests.
- Driving license is essential.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
Membership of ICWCI desirable (MICWCI, LICWCI, Assoc. ICWCI).
