The successful candidate will support the delivery of major infrastructure and construction projects across Ireland, providing commercial management and planning consultancy expertise to clients on complex project and contract-related matters.
Likely commissions will include support with contract management, cost control, programme development, scheduling, change management, risk, entitlement and claims across large-scale capital projects in sectors such as transport, utilities, civil engineering and wider building or infrastructure works.
Responsibilities and Duties
This Commercial Director job in Dublin is a senior appointment suited to a commercially astute leader who can combine strong project delivery with office leadership and business growth.
The role offers the chance to launch and build a Dublin presence in the Irish construction market while working closely with the London leadership team.
- Establish and grow the Dublin office, developing local capability and building a strong market presence in Ireland
- Lead the delivery of commercial management and planning consultancy services across major infrastructure and construction projects
- Provide senior guidance on contract management, commercial administration, cost control, programme development, scheduling and project risk
- Advise clients on change management, entitlement, claims strategy and overall project performance improvement
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships and help secure repeat business in the Irish construction and infrastructure market
- Represent the business in Dublin and across Ireland, identifying and converting new business opportunities
- Build, mentor and lead a high-performing local team as the office expands
- Coordinate closely with the UK leadership team to align delivery standards, technical quality and resource planning
- Support bid submissions, presentations, proposals and strategic business planning
- Act as a trusted senior adviser to clients on complex project and contract-related issues
- Ensure that services are delivered to a high professional standard and in line with client expectations
Desired Skills and Experience
This Commercial Director role would suit a highly experienced construction professional with strong Irish market knowledge and the ability to operate with autonomy in a senior client-facing leadership role.
- Around 15 years or more of experience in commercial management, ideally gained in consultancy and/or Tier 1 contractor environments
- Strong knowledge of contract administration and commercial delivery on major construction or infrastructure projects
- Sound working knowledge of NEC, Irish Public Works Contracts, JCT or similar standard forms of contract
- Strong understanding of cost control, contract management, programme management, scheduling and commercial risk
- Proven ability to lead teams and deliver high-value consultancy services to demanding clients
- Strong business development capability and confidence building work-winning relationships in the Irish market
- Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills
- Credibility and presence to operate at senior level with autonomy, accountability and sound judgement
- Experience supporting clients on change, entitlement, claims and project performance issues
- Strong client-facing ability with a collaborative and commercially focused approach
- Detailed knowledge of the Irish construction market is essential
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
Candidates for this Commercial Director job in Dublin should be able to demonstrate suitable professional and academic credentials relevant to commercial leadership in construction.
- Chartered status or equivalent professional accreditation
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management or a related subject is preferred
- Additional qualifications in contract law, dispute resolution, project controls or planning would be advantageous
