A Contract Administrator, Contract Manager or Commercial Manager job role is available with a specialist airport contractor working on specialist airport baggage handling construction and maintenance projects in Doha Airport in Qatar.

Project Details

This purpose of this Contract Administrator / Commercial Manager job role at Doha Airport, Qatar is to take commercial and contractual responsibility for two key project areas:

1. A range of airport baggage handling operation and maintenance contracts at Doha Airport, Qatar.
2. Responsibility for the construction of new baggage handling facilities at Qatar Airport. 

This is a challenging role requiring a Contract Manager / Contract Administrator / Commercial Manager with very strong contract management, negotiation and claims skills.

The newly awarded airport baggage handling construction and maintenance contracts are for a number of years duration and this job vacancy is a permanent full time staff position based in Doha, Qatar.

Previous Middle East experience would be advantageous. 

You will be based from the Doha office with frequent travels to the Middle East regional head office located in Dubai, UAE.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • As Contract Manager / Commercial Manager you will work on a range of large specialist construction projects with a focus on commercial issues, negotiation and communication of information and contractual positions.
  • This Contacts Manager / Commercial Manager job position requires excellent understanding and full mastery of contracts entered into with clients, partners and suppliers including their T&Cs, interfacing scope, budgets, quality and related time issues.
  • The Contracts / Commercial Manger will need to communicate directly with various departments from the construction site, planning department, engineers and the enginering department to high-level management as well as with the supply chain and upwards to the airport client.
  • Within the business, the Contract-Commercial Manager is ultimately responsible for maximizing financial and operational success and minimizing contractual risks and risk exposure to the company.
  • Specific Contract Manager / Commercial Manager job duties comprise:
     - Managing change orders and claims
     - Developing contract management strategies
     - Reviewing contracts & supporting negotiations
     - Maintaining contemporary records & drafting notices
     - Consulting project and executive management in contractual matters as  subject matter expert.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Professionals are sought with a minimum of 5-7 years' experience in contract management within engineering, construction or system integration
  • Experience of working and living in the Middle East region is highly prefereable although not essential.
  • Previous experience of managing change orders and claims, developing contract management strategies, reviewing contracts & supporting negotiations, experience of maintaining contemporary records & drafting notices and working on contractual matters as subject matter expert.
  • A good business understanding is essential and proficient experience with standard construction and engineering contracts such as FIDIC or equivalent must be demonstrated
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English must be demonstrable
  • A positive, self-driven and professional attitude is a must.
  • A demonstrable ability to supply innovative solutions to customers based on their needs.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

This job requires suitable Contract/Commercial Manager candidates to have a Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Engineering or related relevant construction discipline.

In addition, a Master's degree is desirable in Industrial Engineering, Engineering and Business or Civil Engineering is desirable.
