Project Details
The Cost Consultant will work within a project monitoring team supporting a portfolio of residential, commercial and mixed-use developments across Toronto and Ontario.
Projects typically include residential developments, commercial buildings and urban construction schemes. The role will involve supporting lenders and developers by providing cost advice, financial reporting and progress monitoring across projects at various stages of development and construction.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Cost Consultant will provide quantity surveying and project monitoring services, supporting both clients and internal teams.
- Review and analyse progress draw submissions including schedules of values, invoices and change orders
- Undertake site visits to assess construction progress against valuations
- Analyse project costs including holdback, taxes, credits and variations
- Prepare monthly draw reports and funding recommendations for lenders and clients
- Liaise with developers, contractors and lenders to resolve commercial and reporting queries
- Assist with feasibility reviews and budget assessments alongside senior team members
- Prepare cost estimates and undertake take-offs from drawings
- Analyse unit rates for labour, materials and construction activities
- Support cost benchmarking and financial reporting processes
- Maintain accurate project records and documentation
- Contribute to the successful delivery of multiple live projects
Desired Skills and Experience
This role is suited to a Cost Consultant or Quantity Surveyor at an early stage of their career looking to develop within project monitoring and cost consulting in Canada.
- Degree educated in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or similar
- Experience within a cost consultancy, contractor or project monitoring environment is advantageous
- Understanding of construction processes and cost management principles
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
- Experience with measurement or estimating software (e.g. Bluebeam, CostX or similar) is beneficial
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with clients and stakeholders
- Self-motivated with a proactive and positive approach
- Desire to work towards professional qualification (e.g. PQS or equivalent)
- Valid driving licence and willingness to attend site visits
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or related discipline
- Working towards or interest in professional membership (e.g. PQS, RICS) is desirable
