Staff specialising in the claims and dispute sector of construction can have a significant influence on a company’s financial performance. Currently, I have an urgent requirement for candidates with a Quantum or Planning background, who want to work in the claims or expert witness sectors.

As of May 2015 I will have completed my first full year with Maxim Recruitment. I've been mainly recruiting Quantity Surveyors, Claims professionals, and Planning staff in the busy U.K construction market. Time has flown by, and this can largely be attributed to the fact it's been a busy, successful, and enjoyable year!

UK construction can brag some exciting projects in the current market, such as Crossrail, HS2, the Northern Line Extension, the plans for new residential towers in London, and the renewal of a variety of frameworks such as the beginning of AMP 6 that consists of various new build treatment plants and is of course the massive Thames Tideway Tunnel project. Here is a brief round up of some of the most exciting construction projects and frameworks within civil engineering/infrastructure and within building construction.

Claims on major construction and engineering projects appear to be inevitable, no matter where in the world the projects are being built. There are many reasons that could generate claims: it may because of the contract documents that contain errors and omissions, code violations, or a lack of inter-discipline coordination, or failure of one or many parties to perform in a timely manner, thereby delaying the other party; or changes in the work/design unilaterally imposed by the owner onto the contractor; or unforeseen conditions, such as abnormal or unusual weather or ground conditions. Claims may occur in between the contractors and the employers, the key parties of a construction project.

The construction industry has around 350,000 firms, varying in size from small/medium family owned firms to multi millions pound companies. The sector makes up for around 10.5% of UK employment which is around 3.1 Million people. Construction is seen as a “jobs creator” the sector is over three times more labour intensive than financial services and can provide jobs for people from all educational backgrounds.
