Senior Construction Manager job for experienced rail or civil engineering infrastructure professional to work on major rail construction management assignment. OnCorr is a $16BN collection of projects that is just starting and will run for many years.

Project Details

The Canadian GO Expansion On-Corridor Works (or OnCorr), in Ontario comprises over 200 connected construction projects estimated to be of at least $16 Billion (around GBP£9 Billion) in value. The development phase started in 2022, and design is mostly completed.

Early works are starting alongside the development of the detailed civil engineering, station, signalling and overhead electrification systems, schedules and packages of work.  Contractors are expected to be awarded work in 2025.

Now is the perfect time for construction, civil engineering and rail Construction Managers, Project Directors, Risk Managers, Project Managers and Project Controls professionals, and related specialist engineering and construction professionals to join the project to work with both the client team or the multiple consortia intending to bid, win and deliver this exciting work that is likely run until around 2032.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Support leadership and direction in the Construction & Project Delivery team, delivers timely feedback to ensure a cohesive operational unit and the optimum use of team skills
  • Provide direction and management to construction teams at every phase of the project or program to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and objectives   
  • Support project and program departments through preliminary constructability development, alternative technical concepts, constructability design, and design variances  
  • Lead and strategize collaboration models, both internally and externally 
  • Facilitate regular meetings with clients, third parties, and managers to assess progress, resolve critical issues mitigate risk, and negotiate scope changes 
  • Develop a budget and operating or delivery plan for the construction services on a project or program in consultation with our project and program team and client 
  • Review and confirm the Construction Methodology Work Plans, risk assessments and excavation permits to an approved standard prior to works activities commencing. 
  • Identify and mitigate construction resource, interface and other constraints
  • Recommend changes to project delivery plans, identify areas of improvement to put forward to relevant area in business and operating processes
  • Walk sites and evaluate design information, review drawings and specifications
  • Help to develop the Constructors & PDT’s approach to proactive Health and Safety
  • Issue daily shift reports in a timely manner on site progress and recording all safety, quality, environmental, staffing, access and program issues that arise.      
  • Interact with clients and other stakeholders to ensure that objectives are being met
  • Manage a large team, which may consist of multi-firm resources and client resources, leveraging a diverse array of talents and delegating responsibilities  
  • Participate in critical decision-making on highly technical and complex issues related to construction progress. Gather project intel through meetings, reports, contractor submissions, and schedules 
  • Resolve claims or dispute submissions initiated by the Contractor (potential or actual)  
  • Contribute to the development, recommendation, and implementation of scope, policies, and plans with construction management, standards, technical requirements, infrastructure and system development, constructability design reviews, change management, and Request For Proposals or Request For Quotes (RFPs or RFQs), in conjunction with established KPI’s  
  • Oversee the interface between client, consultants, and all associated service providers at all levels of the engagement model  
  • Build and maintain a positive, high-performing team culture with an openness to constructive challenge, continuous improvement, implementation of lessons learned, and an overall ‘right-first-time” mindset 
  • Identify opportunities to help develop the PDT’s delivery experience, through coaching and mentoring of the on-site teams.  Conduct construction services training appropriate to staff accountability
  • Work rotated shift patterns Days, Nights & Weekend as required

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 18 years of experience in Construction

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Engineering or Construction Management field
