Senior Director Chartered Cost Management
An exciting opportunity for a Chartered Cost Manager at Director or Senior Director level to join a respected PQS cost consultancy in Canada.
This senior leadership role combines multi-office oversight, full P&L accountability, significant client-facing responsibilities, and strategic growth within the Canadian and wider North American markets. Equity participation is available for a suitably experienced leader.
Project Details
The successful candidate will oversee cost management delivery on major public sector projects across Canada, including healthcare, education, government and institutional infrastructure, as well as selected commercial and residential programmes.
They will provide leadership to teams based in Toronto and additional offices such as Ottawa, Vancouver and other key Canadian cities.
Travel to support operations and clients across Canada and probably the USA will be required.
Responsibilities and Duties
This is a senior, strategic position within a growing PQS cost management practice. Responsibilities include:
- Lead multiple offices and teams across Canada, ensuring high-quality cost management service delivery
- Hold full P&L responsibility, including forecasting, budgeting, financial performance and business planning
- Provide client-facing leadership on major public sector capital programmes
- Drive business development across Canada, supporting national growth and cross-border opportunities in the USA
- Mentor, develop and grow cost management teams, providing day-to-day leadership and guidance
- Oversee pre-contract estimating, cost planning, procurement advice and cost reporting on major programmes
- Review and sign off on deliverables, including estimates, cost plans, tender documentation and fee proposals
- Implement and maintain operational procedures, quality controls and performance standards across offices
- Support recruitment, training and professional development programmes for junior and intermediate staff
- Promote collaborative working practices, strong communication and an inclusive team environment
- Represent the consultancy in the market, strengthening client relationships and elevating brand presence
- Provide strategic cost advice to owners, architects, engineers and public authorities on complex projects
Desired Skills and Experience
- Minimum 10 years’ Canadian cost management / PQS experience, with over 5 years in leadership roles
- Public sector project experience essential (healthcare, education, government or institutional)
- Strong track record delivering large, complex capital programmes
- Demonstrated client-facing capability with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven ability to manage multi-office teams and deliver growth in a consultancy environment
- Strong commercial acumen with experience handling P&L and business performance
- Pre-contract estimating and cost planning expertise
- Experience mentoring and developing junior staff; committed to in-office leadership when required
- Willingness to travel within Canada and the USA to support clients and internal teams
- Desire to progress into an equity position within a growing consultancy
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Cost Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Project Management or similar
- PQS designation required / MRICS is expected
- Further leadership or business training is considered advantageous
