A new Senior Quantity Surveyor job role to join a leading specialist Painting and Decorating division of subcontractor with an office in Chelmsford, Essex.

Project Details

Senior Quantity Surveyor will be located to the employers decorating division, which specialises in New Build decorations along with Social Housing Projects. They provide full service from feasibility studies; measuring to a schedule of rates; presenting documents to the Clients on Excel spreadsheets; monitoring the performance of projects on a monthly basis; cost reporting and internal valuations.

The role will be predominantly office based in Chelmsford, Essex, but Senior Quantity Surveyor will need to attend meetings and carry out site visits, as and when required and when necessary.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Senior Quantity Surveyor duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the division in the day to day running of the live contracts/projects.
  • Assisting the Estimator in pricing new works, including the understanding of the tender documentation and/or requirements, site visits, labour and material costs and availability, as and when necessary/required.
  • Production of enquiry packages, including bills of quantities/scope of works, to enable the procurement/agreement of the services of subcontractors and/or suppliers to work on all projects.
  • Measure and value the works on-site, including variations, and subsequently prepare and submit Applications for Payment, Valuations and/or Invoices, whichever is applicable, across all projects, on a monthly basis.
  • Measure and value works carried out on-site by subcontractors and/or suppliers, and authorize payments, on a monthly basis.
  • Overall commercial responsibility for the accurate cost variation and cash flow of projects from procurement through to final account settlement., including the maintaining of cost control documents, Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) document and Charge Out Sheet.
  • Communication with directors and managers of all divisions
  • Liaise with customers, clients & suppliers
  • Assist with organising orders & deliveries
  • Assist with day to day site administration requirements

Desired Skills and Experience

  • A good understanding/knowledge of the construction industry is essential.
  • Experience of working within a Quantity Surveying/Estimating team is desirable.
  • Must hold current CSCS Card
  • Mathematically numerate
  • Be able to read/understand drawings & specifications
  • Deadline driven
  • Good organisation skills to be able to organise and prioritise your workload.
  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook etc, with a knowledge of CAD desirable.
  • Able to work under own initiative
  • Must hold UK Driving License

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • RICS accredited undergraduate or postgraduate Quantity Surveying Degree or HNC/HND Quantity Surveying
