An exciting Site Agent role exists with one of the Midlands leading civil engineering contractors who are based in Leicester.

As Site Agent for the business, you will work on a range of civil engineering projects in the Midlands region and unlike some Site Agent roles, you will not only be responsible for the operational side of projects, you will also take ultimate responsibility in ensuring that agreed margins are kept to on the project. To achieve this, you will need to work closely with the Quantity Surveyor and have a keen interest in the commercial aspects of the project.

Project Details

The company are capable of working on a range of civil engineering projects and typically work with local authorities, academic institutions, property developers and as a sub contractor for larger main contractors. Typical types of work they are involved in includes:

- Utilities and Highways Frameworks
- Minor and Major highways schemes
- Bridge Maintenance
- Infrastructure
- Car Parks
- Reinforced Concrete Frames
- Regeneration Scheme

Responsibilities and Duties

  • To manage all aspects of the site ensuring that the project is completed to time
  • To deliver the agreed level of gross margin from each project undertaken
  • As a result of the tender handover meeting complete the following actions:
    • Compile the contract and construction programme
    • Identify the level of resources for labour, plant, subcontractors and materials
    • Prepare a cost plan for the project
    • Set and agree a cost budget and the level of gross margin
    • Prepare all necessary requisitions
    • Compile Health & Safety Plan, Risk Assessments & Method Statements
    • Plan mobilisation
  • To ensure that a monthly review is completed and reported on the forecast level of gross margin to be achieved from the project
  • To obtain at the end of the project (or at stages if permitted) a signed completion certificate and to agree the final account with the Client, within three months of the end of the project
  • To manage all aspects of on-site Health & Safety
  • To report all accidents or incidents that warrant entry into the site accident book and within 24 hours to the General Manager
  • To manage all aspects of on-site environmental procedures
  • To maintain a daily diary
  • Record any changes, variations, instructions on the appropriate form and obtain a signature from the Client’s representative
  • Manage all on site resources – direct labour, plant, materials, sub-contractors
  • Identify and report training needs of on-site labour to the Contracts Manager
  • Maintain at all times the corporate Company image of the site with respect of signage, general appearance, plant, vehicles, access to and from site
  • Compile and submit weekly returns in accordance with company requirements
  • Assist when requested with the preparation of tenders
  • Represent the Company in a professional manner at all times

Desired Skills and Experience

- Candidate's must have previous experience in an on-site managerial role for civil engineering projects
- Candidates will ideally have a good working knowledge of projects such as highway works including reinstatements, deep and shallow drainage, bridgeworks and other general civil engineering works
- Competent in identifying and assessing contractual risks, preparing method statements and safe systems of work
- Proficient in the use of I.T. including the use of Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Project and outlook
- Good working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental issues
- Good commercial acumen and ability to work towards targets set in relation to profit margins

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

- Candidate will ideally be educated to a minimum of HND level (or similar equivalent) in a relevant subject such as Civil Engineering
- Must be an accredited Streetworks supervisor
- Trained in First aid would be advantageous
