About Technical Experts in Construction

A technical expert in construction is a highly specialised professional with deep knowledge of engineering, materials, systems, methods, and potential failures. They may be called upon at any stage of a project; design, delivery, or dispute resolution, to provide clear, authoritative advice or testimony. Their role is to investigate, interpret, and explain technical issues and their consequences within the often complex mix of facts and differing opinions.

Technical experts provide independent evidence on complex construction matters and are frequently asked to give their professional opinion on the causes of technical issues. Their work spans the full project lifecycle, from early design and specification through to workmanship, construction quality, and post-handover maintenance. They may be tasked with investigating alleged defects, analysing technical documentation, or identifying breaches of standards and compliance.

Experts come from a range of professional backgrounds including architecture, structural engineering, civil engineering and MEP engineering. By combining rigorous technical expertise with the ability to communicate findings clearly, technical experts provide the independent insights needed to resolve disputes and support evidence-based decision making in the construction industry.
