The successful Capital Allowances Analyst will work across a wide range of UK construction projects including commercial developments, residential schemes, refurbishment works, infrastructure assets and energy-related projects.
The role focuses on analysing construction costs and building elements to identify qualifying capital allowances and maximise tax relief for clients.
Responsibilities and Duties
This Quantity Surveyor job is well suited to an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or recently qualified Quantity Surveyor seeking to develop a career in construction consultancy and cost analysis. Key responsibilities include:
- Analysing construction cost data, bills of quantities and project expenditure to identify qualifying capital allowance items
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and construction documentation to support cost segregation analysis
- Preparing technical capital allowances reports in collaboration with tax specialists
- Applying quantity surveying principles to assess construction spend and building components
- Supporting senior consultants with client instructions across multiple construction sectors
- Developing a detailed understanding of capital allowances legislation and its application to construction projects
Desired Skills and Experience
The employer is seeking a motivated early-career Quantity Surveyor with strong numerical and analytical skills. Suitable candidates will typically demonstrate:
- 1–3 years’ experience in quantity surveying, cost management or a construction consultancy role
- Good understanding of construction costs, building elements and measurement
- Strong Excel, data analysis and report-writing skills
- An interest in developing a specialist career in capital allowances, property tax or cost consultancy
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a professional consultancy team
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or a closely related construction discipline
- Progress toward MRICS or a desire to pursue professional chartership is advantageous
