An experienced Clerk of Works is needed to undertake quality site inspections of new-build and refurbishment housing schemes across South West London and nearby counties: Surrey, Hampshire, and West Sussex.

This Clerk of Works job is fully site-based and WFH – no office work is required. Salary between £45,000 and £55,000, depending on experience.

Project Details

In this London Clerk of Works job, you will work on residential housing projects, including new-build developments and refurbishment schemes delivered for contractors and housing associations.

Additionally, other projects may include sectors such as health and mixed-use. Sites are located across South West London, Surrey, Hampshire, and West Sussex, making this role ideal for candidates based in Croydon or Woking.

Responsibilities and Duties

This Clerk of Works role involves undertaking regular site visits and ensuring projects meet the required construction and quality standards.

Duties include:

  • Inspecting new-build and refurbishment residential projects
  • Monitoring workmanship in accordance with drawings, specifications, and compliance requirements
  • Producing clear, high-quality inspection reports
  • Identifying and reporting defects, snags, and discrepancies
  • Liaising with contractors and project teams
  • Supporting on-site quality management processes
  • Maintaining accurate project filing and inspection records

Desired Skills and Experience

The successful Clerk of Works will have strong site inspection or site management experience and confidence working on housing projects.

Desired experience includes:

  • Previous on-site experience on residential new-build or refurbishment projects
  • Strong written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience using digital inspection software such as Field View or PlanRadar (training can be provided)
  • A full driving licence for site travel is essential
  • Background as a Site Manager or in Customer Care seeking a Clerk of Works career

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • ICWCI qualification (MICWCI, AssocICWCI, LICWCI, Student, etc.) is desirable; support can be provided to achieve full Member grade (MICWCI)
  • Fire engineering qualifications (IFE) are advantageous
