An excellent opportunity for a Quality Technical Inspector (Clerk of Works) to join a well-established multi-disciplinary construction and property consultancy.

The role is home and site based, covering London, Buckinghamshire, and Berkshire, delivering independent quality inspections on new-build and refurbishment projects across multiple sectors, with strong support for professional development.

Project Details

In this Clerk of Works job in London, you will work across a diverse portfolio of projects including residential, education, healthcare, blue light, and commercial schemes.

Projects will involve both new-build and refurbishment works, often in live or occupied environments, requiring a high standard of quality assurance and technical compliance. 

This job is well-suited to a Clerk of Works in Reading, Slough, Maidenhead, Watford, Wembley, Milton Keynes, and Greater London.

Responsibilities and Duties

You will act as an independent quality representative on site, working closely with contractor and consultant teams to ensure construction works meet the required standards.

Duties will include:

  • Undertaking regular site inspections to monitor progress and quality of construction works
  • Verifying compliance with contractual drawings, specifications, Employer’s Requirements, warranty standards and relevant regulations
  • Inspecting fire safety-related works, building safety elements and safety-critical details where applicable
  • Identifying discrepancies, defects and non-conformances and monitoring close-out
  • Preparing clear, well-presented written inspection reports with supporting photographs
  • Liaising closely with main contractors’ site teams to review and advise on quality management
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings and researching relevant technical data
  • Supporting team leaders by preparing specific reports and maintaining accurate site records
  • Using Microsoft Word and Outlook, with Excel desirable, to manage reporting and correspondence
  • Maintaining effective communication with the wider project team to support collaborative delivery

Desired Skills and Experience

This role will suit a technically strong construction professional with site inspection experience. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Proven experience inspecting new-build and refurbishment construction projects • Broad knowledge of building construction across multiple sectors
  • Experience monitoring workmanship, materials and construction sequencing
  • Confidence liaising with contractors and project stakeholders on quality matters
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • MICWCI, MCIOB or equivalent professional qualification desirable
  • Qualifications in fire safety or significant experience inspecting fire safety works beneficial but not essential
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle essential
