An international consulting firm are seeking a Commercial Manager to oversee the clients cost verification process on Hinckley Point C (HPC) in Somerset.

You will be employed by a large international consultancy who have offices in London but be site based out of the Bridgewater offices for HPC in Somerset.

You will work as part of a team of staff from the hiring company who are integrated into the client team and provide advice on commercial and contractual matters. Your specific role will be to manage the cost verification process on behalf of the client and ensure what the contractors have been awarded is legitimate in line with defined costs within the contract.

Project Details

You will work on the HPC project out of the Bridgewater office in Somerset. You will work for an international consultancy who have a team of staff integrated into the client team.

The hiring company are a large international consultancy who offer construction disputes and projects advisory services to its clients. There is several years work on the HPC project, however this is a permanent role and future work with the business will relate to disputes and project advisory services.

Responsibilities and Duties

Your role and purpose as Commercial Manager will be to join a large team of staff working on behalf of the client. You will be responsible for the management of the cost verification process on behalf of the client.

Your primary purpose will be to ensure contractors accounts are audited in a timely fashion in line with the contract and verify that the costs that they are awarded are justified and in line with the contract.

Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Management of the client’s budget
  • Ensuring accounts are audited in a timely fashion and in line with the deadlines set within the contract. Failure to do so in the correct time period can result in the client losing their right to dispute any unjust costs
  • Appointing accountants and consultants to carry out the audit process
  • A good understanding of contracts and familiar with relevant clauses in relation to cost verification. Including relevant deadlines.
  • Closing out accounts on behalf of the client
  • Excellent client facing skills with the ability to liaise with a large number internal and external stakeholders involved in the cost verification process

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Candidates will need to have had a successful career as a QS / Commercial Manager
  • Previous experience of managing large scale civils and infrastructure projects as a Project QS / Commercial Manager
  • Good understanding of contracts. Predominantly NEC, however FIDIC would also be advantageous
  • Demonstrable experience of carrying out the cost verification process on behalf of a client organisation or experience of submitting similar applications on behalf of a contractor
  • Highly organised individual with the ability to manage large numbers of contracts
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills
     

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • A relevant Degree in construction subject
  • Membership to a professional body such as the RICS, ICES, CIOB or CIArb would be advantageous but my not be essential
