This client-facing role will suit candidates with strong contract administration, procurement, stakeholder liaison and project tracking experience gained from general contractor, legal, QS or contract administration backgrounds.

Project Details

This Contract Administrator job in Vancouver will involve working on various major infrastructure construction management contracts based in Vancouver.

The successful candidate will support the administration and delivery of large-scale civil engineering and transportation infrastructure projects. These may include roads, bridges, rail, transit, tunnelling, highways and other complex public infrastructure schemes.

As Contract Administrator, the role will focus on contract administration, procurement support, project tracking, reporting and liaison with key stakeholders throughout the construction chain. This is a highly client-facing Contract Administrator position requiring confidence, professional communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with clients, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, designers, legal advisers and commercial teams.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Contract Administrator will support the successful administration of major infrastructure construction management contracts in Vancouver. The role will require a balanced mix of commercial awareness, contractual understanding, procurement knowledge and confident stakeholder management.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Administering construction contracts on major infrastructure and civil engineering projects
  • Supporting the client and project team with contract interpretation, contract compliance and contract management processes
  • Managing procurement activities as required, including supporting tendering, contract documentation, evaluation and award processes
  • Tracking project progress, contract performance, cost, schedule, change and risk matters
  • Liaising regularly with clients, contractors, consultants, designers, commercial teams and other key stakeholders
  • Acting as a confident client-facing representative in meetings, workshops and project discussions
  • Supporting change management, claims administration, payment processes and contract correspondence
  • Preparing, reviewing and maintaining clear contract records, reports, meeting notes and project documentation
  • Identifying contract risks, commercial issues and stakeholder concerns, and escalating these appropriately
  • Helping to maintain strong communication up and down the construction chain to support successful project delivery

Desired Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will have experience in contract administration, construction commercial management, procurement, project controls, quantity surveying, construction law or major infrastructure project delivery.

Candidates may come from a variety of professional backgrounds, including:

  • General contractor background
  • Quantity surveying or commercial management background
  • Contract administration background
  • Construction claims, disputes or legal background
  • Client-side infrastructure or project delivery background
  • Around 5 to 10 years of relevant experience is expected, although this is flexible for strong candidates with the right infrastructure, contract administration or Alternative Delivery experience.

The following experience will be particularly desirable:

  • Experience working on major civil engineering or infrastructure construction projects
  • Exposure to Alternative Delivery models such as Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, Alliance, P3/PPP, DBF or other collaborative contracting models
  • Experience administering contracts on transportation, transit, rail, highway, bridge, tunnelling, utilities or other large infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of procurement, contract documents, change management, payment processes and project reporting
  • Ability to liaise confidently with clients, consultants, contractors, subcontractors and senior stakeholders
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports, correspondence and contract records
  • Good commercial awareness and the ability to identify project risks and contractual issues
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to work in a visible, client-facing role
  • Experience using MS Office; exposure to project management, document control, scheduling or project controls systems would be advantageous

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

A relevant qualification is expected, although the employer will consider candidates with a strong combination of education, training and practical experience.

Relevant qualifications may include:

  • Degree or diploma in construction management, civil engineering, quantity surveying, law, business administration, project management or a related discipline
  • Construction law, contract administration or procurement-related training
  • Professional designations such as PQS, MRICS, CCCA, PMP, CIArb or similar would be advantageous but are not essential
