Quantity Surveyor
An excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join a growing commercial and contract advisory consultancy in Chorley, Lancashire.
This role offers involvement across high-value infrastructure, nuclear and oil and gas projects, hybrid working, strong mentoring and structured support towards chartership.
This is a hybrid working role with typically 3 days project or office based and 2 days from home.
Project Details
The successful candidate will support the commercial delivery of major engineering and construction commissions across the UK, typically within the infrastructure, nuclear and oil and gas sectors. Projects are likely to include complex engineering works, utilities, industrial facilities and other high-value construction programmes where robust cost control, contract administration and commercial reporting are essential.
Responsibilities and Duties
This Quantity Surveyor role will suit a commercially aware candidate who is keen to build further experience in pre-contract and post-contract quantity surveying duties on complex engineering and construction projects.
The role will involve working closely with project teams and client stakeholders to help deliver successful commercial outcomes.
- Support the preparation of tender and contract documents
- Assist with analysis of tender returns and commercial submissions
- Provide pre-contract and post-contract commercial support across live projects
- Support contract administration duties in line with agreed procedures
- Assist with cost forecasting, cost reporting, change control and value management
- Review contractor interim applications for payment and assist with assessment
- Support the agreement of variations, compensation events and claims
- Assist with the completion and agreement of final accounts
- Help meet internal governance, audit and reporting requirements
- Support risk management and value improvement activities
- Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary delivery teams and client representatives
Desired Skills and Experience
This employer is seeking a Quantity Surveyor with a solid technical grounding and a genuine interest in developing a long-term career in quantity surveying and commercial management within the infrastructure and engineering sectors.
- Experience in quantity surveying
- Experience working as part of a commercial team on infrastructure, nuclear, oil and gas or similar projects
- Understanding of pre-contract and post-contract quantity surveying responsibilities
- Experience supporting procurement and administration of NEC3 or NEC4 contracts
- Good commercial reporting, cost control and contract administration skills
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with multi-disciplined teams
- Good stakeholder management and client-facing skills
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn from experienced senior staff
- Experience of contract management systems such as CEMAR would be advantageous
- Working towards MRICS or an APC pathway would be beneficial
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related subject
- Working towards chartered status with the RICS would be advantageous, although full support towards this can be provided
- A full UK driving licence may be beneficial depending on project travel requirements
- Right to work in the UK is essential
