Project Details
The Clerk of Works will be based near Watford and work on a range of residential construction projects across parts of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and North London. Projects may include new build housing developments, residential refurbishment schemes and mixed-use developments.
The successful candidate will undertake regular site visits, monitoring construction quality and helping to ensure works are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications, building regulations and required quality standards.
Responsibilities and Duties
This Clerk of Works role will involve inspecting multiple residential construction projects across the region. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high standards of construction quality and providing clear, accurate reporting to clients and project teams.
- Carry out regular construction site inspections across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and North London areas
- Monitor the quality and workmanship of residential construction works
- Review works for compliance with drawings, specifications and relevant UK building regulations
- Identify defects, quality issues and non-compliant construction works
- Monitor identified defects and remediation works
- Produce clear and detailed Clerk of Works inspection reports supported by photographs
- Liaise professionally with contractors, consultants and client representatives
- Attend site and project progress meetings where required
- Help maintain consistent quality assurance standards across multiple construction projects
- Support the successful delivery of projects to required quality and programme expectations
Desired Skills and Experience
The successful Clerk of Works will have strong practical construction knowledge, excellent attention to detail and experience inspecting residential construction projects. Candidates should be comfortable travelling between construction sites across the region.
- Previous experience as a Clerk of Works, Site Inspector, Site Manager or in a similar construction quality inspection role
- Strong knowledge of residential construction methods, workmanship and quality standards
- Good understanding of UK building regulations and construction compliance
- Experience of new build residential, refurbishment or mixed-use construction projects
- Ability to identify construction defects and accurately record quality issues
- Strong written skills with experience producing detailed inspection reports
- Good verbal communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to organise and manage inspections across multiple construction sites
- Experience working across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Watford, North London or surrounding areas would be advantageous
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between regional construction sites
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- ICWCI membership is highly desirable, including Associate ICWCI membership, LICWCI or MICWCI
- CIOB, RICS, CABE or equivalent construction accreditation will also be considered
- A relevant construction, building or surveying qualification is desirable
