Senior Consultant - Quantum
An expanding construction consultancy is seeking a Senior Consultant – Quantum to join its expert witness division. Based in London (or remote with periodic London travel), you will support the delivery of quantum expert commissions, assisting with analysis, report preparation and dispute support work across adjudication, arbitration and litigation.
This role suits a capable quantum professional looking to deepen expert witness experience and progress towards lead assistant and expert-level responsibilities.
Project Details
The Senior Consultant will support the team in delivering quantum expert witness and expert advisory services. This includes assisting with quantum analysis, preparing schedules and narratives, and contributing to high-quality written deliverables.
Assignments typically relate to formal dispute resolution processes such as litigation, arbitration and adjudication.
The role may also involve supporting expert advisory work on live projects, settlement negotiations and mediations in the UK and internationally. Project sectors may include building, civil engineering and wider infrastructure (specific projects not known).
Responsibilities and Duties
This role supports senior team members in the delivery of high-quality quantum work and provides exposure to expert witness outputs and client/legal stakeholders.
- Assist senior experts and lead assistants with the preparation of quantum expert reports and supporting appendices
- Undertake detailed quantum analysis of claims and counterclaims, including review of records, cost data and contractual documentation
- Prepare and maintain schedules of quantum, cost models and other analytical tools used to support expert opinion
- Support the development of defensible positions on variations, loss and expense, disruption, prolongation costs, damages and termination-related claims
- Help prepare materials for adjudication, arbitration and litigation, including document referencing and evidential support
- Contribute to internal reviews and quality assurance of reports to ensure clarity, accuracy and consistency
- Support senior staff in presenting findings to clients and legal teams, including preparation of meeting notes and summaries
- Assist with workload planning and administrative tasks to help deliver commissions efficiently and to deadline
- Participate in training and professional development, with a view to progressing towards lead assistant responsibilities
Desired Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will be a capable quantum professional with strong analytical skills and a proven ability to contribute to report writing and dispute support deliverables.
- Strong ability to support the drafting of quantum reports and produce clear, well-structured written analysis
- Experience working on construction claims quantum, ideally within disputes (consultancy, contractor, client-side or specialist disputes practice)
- Good understanding of key heads of claim including variations, loss and expense, disruption, prolongation and damages
- Comfortable reviewing and analysing large volumes of documentation and financial/cost data
- Experience across a range of construction and/or engineering projects is preferred
- Strong attention to detail, with an organised and methodical approach
- Confident communicator able to work with senior internal stakeholders and (with support) client/legal teams
- Prior experience supporting adjudication/arbitration/litigation work is advantageous but not essential
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Degree qualified (or equivalent), ideally in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering or similar
- Progress towards Chartered status (e.g. RICS) is desirable
- Postgraduate study in construction law / dispute resolution (LLM / MSc) is advantageous but not essential
