Associate Quantity Surveyor
An Associate Quantity Surveyor is required to take responsibility for providing professional high-quality cost consulting services with a reputable consultancy firm in Calgary/Edmonton, Alberta. This includes but is not limited to the training of junior staff members, reviewing and assessing staff reports, producing accurate cost reports for various construction sectors, and estimating accuracy levels. Project Details
An Associate job to provide a range of cost consulting and management services to new and existing clients, whilst supporting and managing junior staff members to achieve the same. The role will require the successful candidate to take responsibility for ensuring the development, compilation, and finalization of cost estimates within designated timeframes.
You may work on a number of concurrent projects at different stages of completion and handle a range of complicated situations to successful conclusion.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Associate Quantity Surveyor job will focus on providing comprehensive proposals to both existing and new client to expand and maintain client relations. It will also require an ability to manage, coordinate, and train junior staff working on the core service deliverables of:
- Calculating quantities and measurements of specific building elements based upon drawings and other contract documents for detailed estimates.
- Developing and expanding existing and new client relationships, through effective communication and resolving issues as and when required.
- Providing benchmarking data, including unit costs for builds/unit rate analysis.
- Reviewing contractor monthly progress drawdown claims.
- Attending client meetings and site visits when required.
- Conducting technical spot checks and quality reviews of work produced by junior staff to ensure quality assurance of all services performed.
- Carrying out research and price checking of items in the market, either by phone or internet, to provide project and cost data information.
- Monitoring any risks and escalating project issues to the next level of management as and when required.
- Ensuring all invoices for services are accurate and issued on a punctual basis and ensure all overdue invoices are paid in full.
The Associate will also require:
- Extensive knowledge of the construction industry, especially that local to the area, including but not limited to public and private owners, general contractors, sub-trades, contracts, Lien Acts, pricing, method of measurement, and more.
- Excellent negotiation, interpersonal communication, and conflict resolution skills.
Desired Skills and Experience
Suitable project management candidates will come from a Professional Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Building Science, or similar construction background. They will be able to demonstrate a minimum of 8 years of experience in estimating and cost consulting.
Knowledge of Microsoft programs, and excellent knowledge of CostX or a similar cost estimating software is essential
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
Applicants that have a relevant construction degree or diploma such Engineering, Architecture, Building Science, Quantity Surveying, Construction, or similar will be of the greatest interest.
The successful applicant will hold either a PQS, MRICS, Construction Gold Seal Certification, or Cost Engineers Designation.
