A Commercial Manager is needed to join a major civils infrastructure and building contractor in Toronto, Canada to work on transportation, rail and water related projects

Project Details

To work in a Commercial Management role on projects of a complex nature, in the Transportation, Foundations and Water/Wastewater sector

Responsibilities and Duties

The Commercial Manager will be responsible for overseeing the commercial strategy of contracts on multiple projects, working very closely with the senior operations teams to form collaborative approaches while driving performance and minimizing risk to the business.

In a project environment, the Commercial Manager will manage and be accountable for the commercial functions of:
- Procurement
- Subcontract administration and payment
- Contractual claims and contractual management (strategy advice, advancement of claims and defense of claims), including commercial reporting.

•Commercial and contractual advice to senior executives and project teams.
•Support for and implementation of commercial and contractual management procedures.
•Risk identification and mitigation of all commercial risks.
•Commercial reporting and analysis of financial position of the project.
•Training and development of commercial and project staff in the areas of commercial management.
•Subcontract procurement, administration and claims management.
•Commercial management of designers and the design process.
•Ensure compliance with all contractual agreements. Federal, Provincial, and local laws, particularly applicable Occupational Health & Safety Acts/Construction Safety Act regulations and environmental requirements.

Desired Skills and Experience

Required Knowledge & Skills
 •Currently operating at management level on civil projects or as commercial manager in a large construction company.
•Significant claims management/dispute resolution experience on projects of a complex nature, in the Transportation, Foundations and Water/Wastewater sectors
•Thorough knowledge of contract language, change management and legal requirements of contracts.
•Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills.
•Excellent people and leadership skills.
•Ability to liaise/co-ordinate internal and external legal counsel and experts
•Experience of integrated ERP systems will be an advantage
•Experience of working in major Joint Ventures with International partners.
•Experience in Earned Value Management and Primavera P6 will be an asset.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

•Bachelor’s Degree in a related Construction field, and or/corresponding professional membership.
